Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) Department: Development Reports to: Director of Development Location: New York City Position Type: Part-Time, Approximately 3 Days per week, hybrid About the Young People’s Chorus of New York City The Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) is a nationally and internationally recognized youth choral organization dedicated to providing young people with opportunities to develop their musical talents, build confidence, and experience the transformative power of music. Through performances, education programs, and community engagement, YPC serves hundreds of young people and families across New York City and beyond. Position Overview YPC is seeking an experienced and thoughtful Grant Writer to join our Development Department on a part-time basis, approximately three days per week. The Grant Writer will play an important role in securing the institutional support that allows YPC to advance its artistic, educational, and community-focused mission. Working closely with the Development and program teams, the Grant Writer will research funding opportunities, develop compelling proposals and reports, manage an assigned portfolio of institutional funders, and ensure that YPC's programs and impact are effectively communicated to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and storyteller who can translate complex programs, outcomes, and organizational priorities into clear, persuasive proposals. They will be highly organized, collaborative, curious, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. Grant Writing & Reporting Write, edit, and coordinate compelling grant proposals, LOIs, interim and final reports, and other institutional funding materials. Develop clear narratives that communicate YPC's artistic excellence, educational impact, and commitment to young people and their families. Work with program, finance, and development staff to gather information, budgets, statistics, program outcomes, and other materials required for proposals and reports. Maintain a strong understanding of YPC's programs, strategic priorities, and impact in order to effectively articulate the organization's case for support. Ensure all proposals and reports are accurate, compelling, consistent, and submitted on time. Track reporting requirements, deadlines, and deliverables for an assigned portfolio of funders. Foundation & Institutional Research Research prospective foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities aligned with YPC's mission and programs. Identify new prospects and emerging funding opportunities and make recommendations to the Development team. Monitor foundation priorities, application guidelines, funding cycles, and changes in funder interests. Develop and maintain prospect profiles and background information to support cultivation strategies. Internal Collaboration & Systems Build strong working relationships with colleagues across Development, Finance, and Artistic departments. Maintain accurate and up-to-date grant records, deadlines, proposal materials, and correspondence in Salesforce or YPC's development database. Contribute to the ongoing development of institutional fundraising systems, processes, and shared resources. Help develop and maintain a library of organizational language, program descriptions, statistics, outcomes, and other materials used in proposals. Qualifications 5–7 years of professional grant writing and institutional fundraising experience , preferably within a nonprofit, arts, education, youth development, or cultural organization. Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills. Demonstrated experience writing successful foundation, corporate, and/or government grant proposals and reports. Strong research skills and the ability to identify and evaluate prospective funders. Ability to translate programmatic information into compelling narratives for different audiences. Excellent project management and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments and at different levels of an organization. Experience working with fundraising databases, preferably Salesforce. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Compensation This is a part-time position of approximately three days per week . Compensation will be commensurate with experience and the part-time scope of the role.
