Director, Head of Facilities & Engineering

Position Overview Director of Facilities & Engineering for Bay Area sites (Pleasanton and Santa Clara). Leads strategic direction and operational excellence of facilities, overseeing capital projects, site master plans, and continuous improvements in reliability, safety, and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Oversee the Facilities CAPEX portfolio and direct all facility‑related capital projects (range $100,000 to $100,000,000) including scope, cost, schedule, funding documentation, construction, move coordination, and project close‑out. Develop and execute annual and long‑range Facility Master Plans aligned with Site Business Plans. Direct facility operations and maintenance programs, performance measurement, service‑provider management, and resource planning. Lead engineering services (life‑cycle costing, energy conservation, asset management, reliability engineering, performance measurement). Ensure engineering policies, procedures, and practices are effective, efficient, and consistent. Provide regular updates on facilities and engineering matters to senior management. Maintain compliance with local, state, federal, and corporate regulations, as well as Quality System and regulatory compliance programs. Develop and manage department and capital budgets, identifying cost‑reduction opportunities. Collaborate with other functions to meet user requests in a timely and cost‑effective manner, maximizing business value. Translate organizational strategy into business goals and lead a high‑performing Facilities & Engineering function. Share expertise and guidance with the global Roche Diagnostics Sites network. Qualifications 12+ years facilities/plant management experience, preferably in diagnostics, pharma, or biotechnology. 7+ years progressive management/leadership experience. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture, science, technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Capital project management experience and/or plant engineering experience. Master’s Degree in engineering, architecture, or Facilities Management (preferred). IFMA Certified Facility Manager (CFM) (preferred). Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $180,000 – $334,200 USD per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Discretionary annual bonus may be available. Signature benefits are available (details provided separately). This position is not eligible for relocation.
