REIT Controller

A Financial Services Firm based in New York City is seeking an experienced professional to join their team as a REIT Controller. Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day financial and operational activities of the business, ensuring processes are executed efficiently and in accordance with established procedures. Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks to support a strong governance and compliance environment. Manage the monthly close process in coordination with external service providers, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Coordinate regulatory reporting and filing requirements in partnership with legal, compliance, and reporting teams. Liaise with external service providers to support investor transactions, cash activity, and ongoing operational processes. Lead the annual audit process and quarterly reviews, serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Oversee activities related to tax reporting, compliance, and other regulatory requirements. Continuously evaluate existing workflows and identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and operational efficiency. Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and implement enhancements to reporting, analytics, and business operations. Prepare and analyze key performance metrics, management reports, and financial analyses to support strategic decision‑making. Provide insights into business performance through trend analysis, forecasting, and data interpretation. Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the firm’s products, strategies, and business objectives. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required. 8–15 years of accounting, financial reporting, fund accounting, or finance experience, preferably within a REIT, real estate investment management, asset management, or related financial services environment. Strong understanding of REIT accounting, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and operational processes. Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, external service providers, auditors, and business partners. Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and develop practical, cost‑effective solutions to operational and business challenges. Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities.
