Registered Veterinary Technician

Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center & Urgent Care is seeking a skilled Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our collaborative, fast-paced hospital team.

We are looking for an experienced RVT who is passionate about surgical patient care, confident monitoring anesthesia, and committed to delivering exceptional medicine and compassionate care to both patients and clients.

This role is ideal for technicians who enjoy anesthesia, surgery, technical patient care, and working closely with our veterinarians and surgical team.

Ideal Candidate

We are specifically seeking an RVT who enjoys working in surgery and anesthesia. If you have experience monitoring anesthesia, supporting surgical procedures, and providing exceptional perioperative patient care, we'd love to hear from you.

What We're Looking For

Candidates should have experience or proficiency in:

  • Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Surgical patient preparation and assistance
  • Venipuncture and blood collection
  • IV catheter placement
  • IV fluid therapy setup and monitoring
  • Patient assessment and monitoring
  • In-house laboratory diagnostics
  • Patient restraint and low-stress handling
  • Client communication and education
  • Working collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital environment

Experience in surgery, dentistry, emergency, specialty, or high-volume general practice is strongly preferred.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients safely under anesthesia using appropriate monitoring equipment and techniques.
  • Prepare surgical patients, including IV catheter placement, blood collection, patient clipping, and surgical preparation.
  • Assist veterinarians during surgical and dental procedures.
  • Monitor anesthesia recovery and provide high-quality nursing care throughout the perioperative period.
  • Administer medications, fluids, and treatments within the RVT scope of practice.
  • Collect laboratory samples and perform in-house diagnostic testing.
  • Measure and accurately record TPR and other patient vital parameters.
  • Maintain accurate anesthesia records and patient medical records.
  • Assist with outpatient appointments, diagnostics, imaging, and treatments as needed.
  • Provide compassionate client communication, including discharge instructions and medication review as directed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, treatment documentation, and charge entry.

Hospital Support Responsibilities

  • Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked surgery and treatment areas.
  • Prepare surgical packs, instruments, and equipment for daily procedures.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, room setup, laundry, and hospital organization.
  • Support team workflow through proactive communication and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license required.
  • Experience monitoring anesthesia and assisting with surgery is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical nursing skills, including venipuncture and IV catheter placement.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to safely restrain animals and lift patients with assistance as needed.

Additional Requirements

The nature of the Registered Veterinary Technician role requires:

  • On-site presence.
  • Ability to see, hear, and rapidly process activity in a fast-paced clinical environment. Close vision is essential for completing job duties.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to safely handle instruments, equipment, and patients.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; reach, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift pets up to 25 pounds independently and up to 55 pounds with team assistance, stock supplies, clean kennels, and safely restrain animals.
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and safely handle medications, anesthetic agents, and cleaning products.
  • Strong verbal communication skills in English.

Compensation, Benefits & Schedule

  • $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience
  • Full-time or Part-time
