Description: Position Summary

The Contract Security Officer (CSO) provides armed physical security services to protect Federal Aviation

Administration (FAA) employees, facilities, and U.S. Government property and assets from loss, theft, damage,

unauthorized use, criminal acts, espionage, sabotage, and terrorism. The CSO implements the Facility Security

Management Program (FSMP) at the assigned site, including visitor and vehicle control and screening,

monitoring of cameras and intrusion detection/alarm systems, magnetometer and x-ray screening, and other

duties defined in the site-specific Facility Post Orders.

This position will work at multiple sites between FAA Chicago TRACON, FAA Chicago ARTCC (ZAU) and  Chicago O'Hare International Airport Air Traffic Control Tower (ORD). 

Overnights and Weekends Needed.  Friday through Sunday from 10pm - 6am

• Staff entry/exit posts; verify identification and screen visitors, vehicles, and mail/packages using metal detection and x-ray equipment.

• Conduct roving patrols on foot to inspect the facility perimeter, buildings, doors, windows, locks, fences, sensors, and security equipment; log rounds using the Government-furnished electronic tour system.

• Operate and monitor electronic security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control) in accordance with Facility Post Orders.

• Respond to emergencies, accidents, medical incidents, and security incidents; administer first aid, CPR, and AED as needed; contact 911 and notify the ATR/FM as required.

• Control and issue keys, key cards, and combinations; issue visitor badges and temporary passes.

• Prepare written and verbal incident and situation reports (e.g., accidents, bomb threats, suspicious persons/vehicles, unlawful acts).

• Raise/lower the U.S. flag, direct traffic and parking, and provide backup assistance to other CSOs as assigned.

• Carry and, if necessary, draw or discharge an issued firearm and OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) spray solely to protect self or third parties, in accordance with the Contractor's Security Officer Manual (SOM) and use-of-force policy.

• Maintain required onsite records (SOM acknowledgement, training and certification files) and comply with the Post Orders, SOM, and Facility Security Plan.

• Duties must be performed in a manner that causes minimal interruption or interference with government business; CSOs may not perform personal services or any inherently governmental function, and must identify themselves as contractor employees, not government representatives.

Citizenship & Personal Traits

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Must exercise sound judgment, deal with people positively, and maintain poise and self-control under stress.

• Must be able to input/retrieve data using a computerized security system and read, understand, and apply printed instructions, rules, orders, and training materials.

• Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.

• Must have a high school diploma or GED from a duly accredited institution.

Experience

• Three (3) years of security experience within the past five (5) years; OR

• Associate degree in a related field plus one (1) year of security experience; OR

• Three (3) years of military experience (active, reserve, or National Guard), currently serving or honorably discharged; OR

• Successful completion of a State-certified Police Officer's Standard Training (POST) course.

Communication Skills

• Speaks English fluently.

• Reads and understands written English in reports, orders, guidelines, and instructions.

• Writes official reports in English that are grammatically correct and technically accurate.

Disqualifying Factors

• Any felony conviction.

• Conviction of, or indictment for, a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence under 18 U.S.C. § 922.

• Failure to comply with TSA Regulation 49 CFR 1542 (Airport Security), where applicable.

• Complete required initial training within 30 calendar days of assignment (32 hours total firearms training: 8 hours classroom + 24 hours live fire), covering jurisdiction and authority, use of force, OC/baton/handcuff techniques, First Aid/CPR/AED, human interaction, and workplace safety.

• Complete a minimum of 20 hours of annual refresher training, including at least 8 hours of firearms training/re-qualification.

• Requalify on firearms at least once every 365 days with a minimum passing score of 80% (200/250 points), using the assigned firearm, ammunition, and duty gear.

• Maintain current state or local licensing/certification (armed/unarmed CSO) as required in the state of assignment.

• Work is performed at FAA facilities (e.g., ATCTs, TRACONs, ARTCCs) indoors and outdoors, during day or night shifts, in all weather conditions.

• Shifts may be up to 12 consecutive hours, with at least 8 hours of non-duty time between shifts; total hours must not exceed 40 hours per week including Post Associated Time.

• May be required to respond to recalls outside normal shift hours (on-site within 2 hours of authorized recall).
