**Disclaimer-if the position is filled after July 1, 2026, then the job opportunity will not be in the classified service ** The DMV Agent 1, under general supervision, performs full-performance level public contact work involving the processing, recording, and issuance of drivers' license, vehicle registration, vehicle titles, and related documents in a Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) regional office. Work involves knowledge, interpretation, and the application of motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures. Other duties as required. Pay Grade 10
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
• Answers inquiries from customers in person in a DMV regional office regarding motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist customers in the processing of driver licenses, identification cards, motor vehicle license and registrations and title work. Explains forms and fees associated with the processing.
• Reviews documentation to ensure information is complete and accurate.
• Will be trained and required to administer various types of knowledge/skills tests for driver's license issuance.
• Enters data into the computer to access previous data and update new file information as appropriate.
• Assesses fees and processes cashier transactions balances cash drawer at the end of business day.
• Mails forms per customer requests and/or inquiries, composing correspondence to explain documents.
• Responsible for issuing and maintaining assigned inventory items.
Skills and Knowledge
• Knowledge of federal guidelines, motor vehicle law, rules, and regulations
• Ability to interpret rules and regulations
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Knowledge of basic computer skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
• Ability to comprehend and effectively carry out oral and/or written directions
• Ability to learn and process multiple types of transactions in the DMV system.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and process a high volume of customers when necessary Minimum Requirements REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION: Graduation from standard high school or the equivalent. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: One year of full time or equivalent part time paid experience in bookkeeping, cashiering, or related public contact work.
Substitution: College credit from an accredited college or university, business school, or vocational training may be substituted through an established formula for the required experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid driver's license is required and must be maintained. Work schedules are assigned and rotated on a regular basis. Overtime Hours may be required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must consent to fingerprinting and a criminal background investigation.
