Under limited supervision, provides intervention for students in the area of mathematics and assists instructional staff with developing strategies and techniques for assessing and addressing the mathematics deficiencies of their students. Provides high-quality mathematics instruction to individual students and small groups. Positively impacts student achievement through support, training, coaching, and mentoring, which builds school and teacher capacity to increase student achievement and to develop and implement quality services for elementary students who need additional academic support in mathematics. Reports to the Principal and/or Assistant Principals.

Analyzes class and grade level data in mathematics for the purpose of sharing with teachers and making informed decisions relative to instructional practices. Demonstrates exemplary classroom practice and possesses a deep understanding of mathematics for the purpose of modeling best practices in mathematics and improving student achievement levels. Helps build assessment systems that are aligned with curriculum and instruction priorities for improvement in mathematics. Instructs individual and small groups of students for the purpose of improving mathematics achievement levels. Provides a high level of skill in all aspects of instruction that accelerates the learning of students struggling in mathematics. Co-teaches and models instructional strategies with teachers and staff in classrooms (use gradual release structure). Leads and participates in ongoing and job-embedded professional development such as meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of determining the success of mathematics content knowledge, pedagogy, and coaching. Works in conjunction with other district departments to facilitate and support mathematics development and implementation across all programs. Assists with the overall evaluation of mathematics programs in the school and develops strategies for improvement. Collaborates with other content area teachers to provide mathematics programs. Provides highly specialized mathematics instruction in which struggling students thrive; instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated, and provides ample practice. Facilitates implementation of district math programs and state standards. Uses knowledge of assessment and remediation strategies for increasing student achievement. Plans, observes, co-teaches and reflects with teachers on best practices for teaching elementary mathematics. Administers assessments, analyzes data, and plans instruction from assessment data. Coordinates across instructional settings the instruction provided to students who need additional assistance in mathematics (e.g., intervention teacher collaborating with the school and district administrators, coaches, student assistance team members, and other interventionists to problem-solve interventions and assistance for students who need additional assistance in mathematics). Monitors student progress in ways that inform teaching and motivate learners. Plans, schedules, and conducts content meetings. Helps teachers link best practices and materials to standards. Creates and/or contributes to the development of common assessments. Helps schools identify appropriate teaching methods and strategies. Develops and supports district-wide mathematics initiatives. Meets regularly with principals to monitor and support mathematics implementation and individual teacher needs. Keeps parents, administrators, and community informed about the mathematics programs/strategies in the school. Participates in regular professional development to improve knowledge and skills.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in the grade/subject area taught with a valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate. Highly qualified in grade/subject area according to No Child Left Behind Legislation.
