Staff Accountant (Modesto-Merced Area)

About the Role

Generations Home Loans is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This position supports the day-to-day accounting operations of our mortgage lending business, with a focus on loan accounting, warehouse funding activity, investor transactions, reconciliations, and general accounting.

The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller and other departments, including Secondary, Post-Closing, and Branch Operations, to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely.

Key Responsibilities

• Reconcile and record loan funding, warehouse line activity, and investor purchase transactions.
• Review investor purchase advices and reconcile gain-on-sale, fees, and payoffs.
• Prepare and post journal entries related to loan fundings, sales, servicing transfers, and accruals.
• Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations, including warehouse and operating accounts.
• Manage full-cycle Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R).
• Assist with month-end and year-end close.
• Work with Secondary Marketing and Post-Closing to resolve funding and purchase discrepancies.
• Issue and track First Payment Letters.
• Review employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card transactions.
• Assist with local and state business tax filings.
• Manage vendor onboarding and W-9 documentation.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Assist with process improvements, internal controls, and reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• 2–4 years of accounting experience; mortgage or financial services experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• Intermediate Excel skills, including XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and reconciliations.
• Experience with accounting software and loan origination systems such as AMB and Encompass is preferred.
• Experience with mortgage banking, warehouse lending, loan funding, investor accounting, or gain-on-sale accounting is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across departments.

Work Schedule & Compensation

This is a full-time, non-exempt position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Hybrid remote work arrangements may be available based on eligibility.

Hourly Pay: Starting $34.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable California wage and hour laws.
