Description:
This facility has 109 licensed beds.
It does not have a trauma designation.
It is not a teaching hospital and does not employ residents or students.
The unit comprises 10 ICU beds and 4 PCU beds, used only in surge capacity.
The average patient census is approximately 7.3 patients per day.
Patient types and common diagnoses include sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, myocardial infarction, NSTEMI, stroke, TIA, new onset cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, DKA, minor trauma, alcohol withdrawal, ARDS, respiratory illnesses, flu, COVID, and pneumonia.
Patient ratios are typically 1:2-3, depending on acuity, and may include a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients.
There is no CNA available overnight; the ratio is 1:10 for dayshift only.
The position requires skills such as stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, managing critical care drips, chest tubes, PIV starts, TNK administration, ventilator management, trach care, NGT placement, and drain/tube management.
Experience with medication drip management, including critical care drips and cardiac drips, is essential.
Support within the department includes house supervisors, charge nurses, and phlebotomy services.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, and hospitalists are also on-call at all times.
There is an intensivist who rounds Monday through Friday.
Night shift nurses provide report to the intensivist on their patients.
The position requires floating to assigned areas as needed within scope of practice.
Weekend rotation is required at a minimum of every other weekend.
Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays.
Shift start time requires clocking in before 18:45 but not before 18:38.
Schedule cycles occur every 6 weeks.
The unit culture emphasizes teamwork and open communication.
