RN - PACU/Pre-Post Op

Perianesthesia Registered Nurse (RN)Join our team as a Perianesthesia Registered Nurse (RN) and contribute to all phases of perianesthesia care, including Pre-Op, PACU Phase 1, and PACU Phase II. This role involves applying the nursing process within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing, with a focus on patient teaching, care documentation, and effective collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist physicians during endoscopic examinations and perform gastric manometer testing.Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient readiness for surgery.Conduct detailed assessments of patients concerning planned surgery, covering:Physical parametersLab valuesMedicationsLearning needs before, during, and after surgeryUnderstanding of procedureConsult with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to address patient issues promptly.Prevent avoidable surgery cancellations.Initiate interdisciplinary discharge planning, involving patients and caregivers.Perform EKGs as ordered.Manage patient recovery, including pain control during anesthesia recovery.Oversee patients undergoing moderate sedation, including medication administration and emergency airway management.Identify and interpret cardiac rhythms while proficiently using cardio-respiratory monitoring equipment.Conduct comprehensive assessments that consider physical, psychosocial, and learning needs, along with age and cultural factors.Establish nursing diagnoses in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.Plan and update patient care according to identified needs and diagnoses.Implement individualized care, including:Assistance with activities of daily living and fall risk managementMedication administrationSkin assessment and wound carePain managementOperation of biomedical and patient care equipmentAssist other licensed practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures.Educate patients and families regarding illnesses, medical tests, medications, and wellness promotion.Supervise and direct unlicensed assistive personnel to ensure quality patient care.Document patient assessments, interventions, care provided, and teaching in the electronic medical record.Communicate updates on patient status and evaluation of care to the interdisciplinary team.Perform other duties as assigned.Skills and AbilitiesAble to take call during nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis; must live within 30 minutes of the hospital.Exhibit excellent airway management skills.Proficient in reading, writing, and conversing effectively in English.Display critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.Flexibility to prioritize and adapt to changing patient and unit needs.Demonstrate effective teaching skills.Respond effectively to patient crises and emergencies.Proficient with computer systems, including accessing the internet, word processing, and electronic medical records.Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance.Education/Certifications/Licenses/DegreesCurrently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oregon.American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within six months.Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course certification must be obtained within one year.Preferred specialty certification (CPAN or equivalent).ExperienceRecent acute care hospital experience within the past five years is preferred.Physical/Mental/Environmental RequirementsAble to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
