SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC – RENTAL & SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Job Summary The Small Engine Mechanic – Rental & Service Technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing rental equipment and small engine tools. This role ensures our rental fleet is safe, reliable, and customer-ready at all times. In addition to mechanical work, this position assists customers by demonstrating proper equipment operation to ensure safe use and prevent damage due to improper handling. This is a 30–40 hour per week position and may require some Saturday availability. Key Responsibilities Equipment Service & Repair Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair small engines and rental equipment Service mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, and other outdoor power equipment Perform preventative maintenance on rental fleet equipment Inspect equipment before and after rental for safety and functionality Maintain service records and document repairs Rental Support & Customer Safety Demonstrate proper and safe operation of rental equipment Clearly communicate usage instructions and safety guidelines Answer customer questions regarding operation and care Ensure equipment leaves in safe, working condition Shop & Operational Support Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop area Assist with parts inventory and supply management Support yard or store operations when needed Follow all safety policies and operational procedures Qualifications 1+ year experience working on small engines preferred Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Experience with outdoor power equipment preferred Ability to lift 50–80 lbs as required Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Valid driver’s license Flexible availability (30–40 hours per week)

(Applies to all Wood Shed hourly and leadership roles) Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the store and yard Perform work requiring balance, coordination, and hands-free mobility Lift, carry, push, and pull materials of varying weight depending on role (up to designated limits) Work in a fast-paced retail environment with changing priorities Assist customers in a professional, courteous, and solution-oriented manner Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Safely operate tools, equipment, or vehicles as required (training provided where applicable) Follow all safety policies, procedures, and operational standards These functions are considered essential and cannot be removed or permanently modified. #J-18808-Ljbffr Wood Shed Lumber & Hardware
