Join Our Team

Mechanical Optimizers is seeking experienced Commercial Sheet Metal Installers to join our Columbus installation team. This position is responsible for installing commercial HVAC ductwork and related components safely, accurately, and according to project specifications, applicable codes, and company quality standards.

The ideal candidate has strong commercial sheet metal installation experience, can read mechanical plans and specifications, works effectively as part of a crew, and takes pride in completing clean, high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities

• Install commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems according to project plans, specifications, and approved scope.
• Measure, lay out, cut, fit, assemble, hang, seal, and modify sheet metal ductwork and related components.
• Install rectangular, round, and spiral ductwork, including fittings, transitions, plenums, dampers, curbs, supports, hangers, diffusers, grilles, and equipment connections.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and job documentation.
• Verify field dimensions and identify site conditions that may affect labor, materials, installation, or project scope.
• Coordinate with project leadership, warehouse personnel, and other trades to support efficient job completion.
• Promptly communicate material shortages, drawing conflicts, jobsite concerns, and potential change-order needs.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, photographs, and closeout information.
• Protect customer property and maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas.
• Assist and train helpers or apprentices in safe, efficient, and high-quality sheet metal installation methods.
• Minimize punch-list items and callbacks through consistent quality control.
• Follow company safety policies and all applicable jobsite requirements.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of commercial HVAC sheet metal installation experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of commercial ductwork layout, assembly, installation, sealing, supports, and field modifications.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, shop drawings, specifications, and equipment information.
• Experience using sheet metal hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and related installation equipment.
• Knowledge of applicable codes, permitting requirements, and safe installation practices.
• Commercial HVAC or mechanical piping experience is a plus.
• Strong craftsmanship, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Trade school, apprenticeship training, or equivalent field experience preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, construction sites, and occupied customer facilities.
• Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.
• Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and elevated surfaces as required.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and mobile technology.
• Comply with PPE, driving, lockout/tagout, and jobsite safety requirements.
