Essential Job Functions: Makes referrals to integrate client to SMA programs and communityresources. Assists clients with identifying financial assistance for theclinic, medications and other medical needs. Obtains requireddocuments and signatures, such as, release of information, hospitalmedical records, and/or other provider records. Schedules clientappointments and maintains communication to confirm future appointments. Coordinates dailyoffice activities, such as, greeting clients and checking clients in andout for their appointments. Greets and preparesclient for provider, including, monitoring and documenting client symptomsfor providers review during clinical exams. Obtains and recordsvital signs, such as, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration's,height, weight, allergies, current medications, health history,immunizations, and family and social history. Performs generalclient care by following established standards and procedures,including, drawing and collecting blood samples, taking tissue and fluidsamples, preparing and sending specimens to laboratory for analysis,Point of Care testing, EKG's, hearing and vision screening. Preps exam rooms for clinicalprocedures and assists practitioners with client care. Prepares and administersmedications and or immunizations, via oral, injections, topically,rectally and or inhalant. Reportsany concerns regarding the health, safety, or well-being of a client tothe appropriate team member. Completesrequired program documentation in a timely manner. Performsgeneral office duties; answers phone, communicates with the public,hospitals, internal and external customers, etc. as required. Keepsexam rooms stocked, clean and orderly. Disposesof medical waste according to protocol. Ensuressafety checklists and quality controls are completed as required. Ensurespar levels are maintained by follow clinic standard for inventory, and orderssupplies to maintain par levels when they fall below the establishedquantity. Performsother duties as assigned by clinic leadership or as requested byprovider. Qualification Requirements: To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily. Minimum Education and/or Experience: Possession of a high school diploma orequivalent and one year of related medical assistant experiencerequired. Experience working withadult and pediatric clients in a primary care medical environmentpreferred. Experience working withclients that may have co-occurring mental health disorders and/or substanceuse disorders preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred and maybe required depending on program. Knowledge/Skills/andAbilities : Some knowledge of human services and the application ofbasic client care skills. Ability to handle verbally and/or physically abusive andaggressive clients and utilize aggression control techniques to ensure thesafety and well being of the client, other clients, and employees in theunit. Ability to communicate effectively with suicidal,mentally, emotionally, and/or psychologically disturbed clients in person andover the telephone. Ability to defusepotentially dangerous situations, and remain calm in an emergency. Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Florida driver's license, acceptable drivingrecord, and proof of personal automobile insurance if required to drive anSMA vehicle and/or use a personal vehicle for SMA business. Complete State ofFlorida mandatory background screening prior to start of employment. Complete SMA required training during thefirst six (6) months of employment and updated if required. Physical: Mobility and ability to bend andreach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to lift minimum 50 pounds. Visual andauditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record clienthealth care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, dailycorrespondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work enduranceability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 8-12hourshifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Workassignment locations may vary.
