The Facilities Engineer/Industrial Hygienist will play an important role in supporting the manufacturing operation by ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of the facility infrastructure and plant systems that support production. This position will focus on maintaining optimum system performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, reducing energy consumption, and conserving resources.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Maintain and optimize facility and plant infrastructure supporting the manufacturing process.
• Monitor the performance and reliability of building systems, utilities, and equipment.
• Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, reliability, and overall plant performance.
• Develop and implement initiatives to reduce energy consumption, minimize waste, and conserve resources.
• Troubleshoot facility and plant system issues and lead efforts to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Work directly with operators and first-line managers to understand operational challenges and develop practical solutions.
• Partner with Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, and other departments on facility and process-supporting projects.
• Support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical facility infrastructure and systems.
• Evaluate equipment and system performance and recommend upgrades, modifications, or replacements when appropriate.
• Assist with planning and execution of capital improvement and facility projects.
• Monitor utility usage and identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved resource utilization.
• Ensure facility systems and infrastructure operate in accordance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Establish and maintain appropriate documentation, procedures, and records related to plant systems and engineering activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, cost reduction, and operational excellence.
• Respond to urgent facility or infrastructure issues and coordinate timely resolution to minimize impact on manufacturing operations.
• Communicate project status, technical findings, recommendations, and improvement opportunities to management and key stakeholders.
• Administer and maintain the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS), coordinate internal and external audits, and support continuous improvement initiatives to maintain certification and regulatory compliance.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Strong proficiency in computer applications, including spreadsheet software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
• Self-motivated with a proactive, result-oriented attitude and a strong commitment to success.
• Highly organized and self-disciplined, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet objectives in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while adhering to deadlines.
• Working knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standards.
• Familiarity with MiOSHA and OSHA regulations, with the ability to apply workplace safety requirements effectively.
• Proactive, hands-on approach to identifying and resolving problems.
• Knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability, and resource conservation practices is a plus.

 

Education and Experience:

• Experience with facility support including utilities and environmental considerations.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Comfortable working on the manufacturing shop floor.
• Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times.
