Substation Engineering Project Leader

Requisition ID: 44537BR Business Unit: IND Job Description Join CDM Smith's Industrial Division as a Substation Engineering Project Leader and play a pivotal role in our expanding business that supports electric utility and substation clients across the United States. In this position, you will spearhead multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver critical substation programs and projects across various markets, including consulting, engineering, design-build, and EPC (engineer, procure, construct) delivery. The ideal candidate will be an experienced project manager with expertise in physical substation design and protection/control systems for both brownfield and greenfield substations, addressing voltages of up to 345 kV. Your focus will be on ensuring safety, compliance, constructability, and operational readiness throughout all project phases. Responsibilities Overseeing a range of complex substation engineering projects from conceptual development to detailed design and construction support, including supporting tasks like breaker and transformer replacements, new bay additions, and protection relay upgrades. Leading proposal development, determining the scope, schedule, staffing, and cost, in collaboration with the Sales Leader and marketing teams to create appealing submissions. Managing and coordinating multi-discipline engineering teams (including physical, P&C, civil/structural) to ensure compliance with quality, schedule, and budget goals. Addressing quality, risk, schedule, and change management effectively. Acting as a mentor and leader for multi-discipline project teams, ensuring adherence to discipline and quality standards. Being the primary client contact during project execution, aiming to deliver an exceptional client experience and strengthen client relationships. Utilizing your expertise to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions supported by the engineering team. This role may involve both domestic and international travel based on the specific needs of the projects. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree. 10 years of related experience. PMP (PMI), CCM or DBIA certification is required (to be obtained within 12 months of hire or promotion). Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field. Experience in design-build and/or EPC project delivery, including procurement coordination and construction oversight. Proficiency in multi-site capital program planning and execution. Experience with mission-critical substation projects that require fast-track delivery. Registered Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
