They are expected to use creativity and analytical skills to develop, document, and verify new mechanical designs. They will interface with multiple functions including, but not limited to, manufacturing, procurement, supplier engineering, quality, and regulatory. They will interface with sThe Sr. Mechanical Engineer is expected to use machine design and analytical skills to conceptualize, develop, and verify new mechanical designs. The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer must utilize creativity and sound engineering judgment in the design of medical capital equipment components for volume manufacturing processes. They are responsible for key system components and will interface with suppliers and manufacturing to build high-quality hardware prototypes and productize new designs. They will be expected to excel in a focused, high-energy, collaborative work environment with a team of talented engineers. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer should be capable of making sound decisions when faced with the time constraints and ambiguous or incomplete information typical of research and development.Roles & ResponsibilitiesDesigning components and producing mechanical drawings for volume manufacturing processes which may include cast metal, injection molded plastic, sheet metal stamped, and others in a government regulated environmentWorking within multi-disciplinary teams to define requirements for new and current designsDesigning for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and costSelecting and managing vendors in the prototype phaseCollaborating with manufacturing to create product assembly tooling, fixtures, and instructionsDeveloping and performing component verification testing and product validation testingSupporting production of final product by troubleshooting process and component problemsProviding engineering support to Manufacturing, Materials, Test Engineering, and Service to facilitate transfer of designsDeveloping mechanical assemblies, with careful consideration for key functions and safety.Rapid development and iteration of full-scale prototypes of candidate architectures to satisfy requirementsMentor and coach other engineers in problem solving QualificationsRequiredBSME, or similar8 years of experience with mechanical design or machine designExperience designing for volume manufacturing processes such as metal castings, injection molding, sheet metal stamping, compression molding, thermoforming, etc.Ownership of components or assemblies through multiple product launches to marketAbility to apply knowledge of engineering materials and component selection criteria to product designs through strong concept development, design analysis, hands-on prototyping, and reliability testing skillsProficiency using CAD, analysis, and finite element simulation tools [JG4] to design mechanical assembliesPreferredExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsSelf-driven with the ability to excel in a high-energy, small, focused team environment, to maintain a strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward, and to make work fun and interestingInterest in the medical applications of roboticsPassion for details in creating robust and reliable machines designed for mission-critical applicationsPost-graduate study or equivalent work experience preferredRobot design experience.
