Cost Accountant

Duration: 06+ Months ( possibility of extension) location: Rowland Heights CA POSITION DESCRIPTION We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Cost Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Plant Controller, the ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing and managing the costs associated with our food manufacturing processes, ensuring accurate cost reporting, and supporting financial decision-making. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and maintain standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead. Analyze production costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs. Conduct variance analysis to identify and explain cost discrepancies. Identify and resolve cost-related issues by analyzing data and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Collaborate with the production and supply chain teams to optimize cost efficiency. Perform monthly closing activities, including preparation of manufacturing variances and supporting analysis. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts. Lead inventory cycle count and audits, reconcile inventory discrepancies. Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies. Provide cost analysis and support for new product development. Prepare and present cost reports to management. Prepares daily or weekly reports of variances, provide business insights to plant management. Investigate / resolve Accounts Payable related issues. Responsible for all inventory transactions at the plant and 3PL. Verify daily production postings to ensure proper inventory is reported. Analyzes all inventory variances, identify root causes and drive improvements. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Minimum of 2 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a food manufacturing environment. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically. Proficiency in Excel & MS Office products. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of GAAP and relevant accounting standards. Experience with ERP systems, such as SAP, Oracle, or JDE Familiarity with principles and practices for operational excellence.
