Job Details Department: 36315 Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital - Nuclear Medicine Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: M-F 8:30-5, CALL/HOLIDAY ROTATION Pay Range: $41.10 - $61.65 Responsibilities Determine appropriate image scan technique and patient positioning using immobilization/support devices. Secure patient history for prescribed test and record on the appropriate form for radiologist review. Position patient, adjust equipment, and secure immobilization/support devices as required. Capture exam charges, update procedure files, and enter reimbursement codes via HIS/RIS system; verify daily log for completed exams. Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medications per clinician prescription and approved parameters. Perform venipuncture and place peripheral IV catheters; access additional vascular access devices as training allows. Follow correct procedures for handling radioactive materials, implement ALARA measures, and maintain accurate pharmaceutical dose records. Verify procedures sent to PACS for radiologist interpretation and coordinate quality control activities in Nuclear Medicine and PET. Manage patient flow into and out of the department, partner with other disciplines, and transport patients as needed. Perform quality control activities as directed by IEMA on daily, monthly, and quarterly basis. Label equipment failures and report to Biomed for maintenance. Check film quality and ensure correct labeling of each image. Prepare NM suite for procedures, maintain equipment and supplies, and acquire studies using appropriate scanning and CT protocols. Prepare isotopes per radiologist prescription within IEMA guidelines; use injectors in PET area to reduce exposure. Provide instruction and orientation to new technologists and support peers with specific procedures. Adhere to safety standards and practices for patient safety and quality care; operate nuclear and PET equipment safely. Maintain cleanliness of all areas, ensure exam accuracy and requisition, and perform clerical duties (records, phones, scheduling, patient instructions). Provide competencies to non‑technical staff for IEMA compliance and maintain annual competencies for nuclear equipment. Maintain certifications: ARRT (N) or NMTBC, CPR, and state accreditations; keep positive guest relations and telephone etiquette. Education & Experience Must be a graduate from an accredited AMA School of Nuclear Medicine. New graduates are accepted. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of HIS system and basic knowledge of RIS systems and PACS. IEMA accreditation in Medical Radiation Technology. ARRT registration and certification in nuclear medicine (NM) or CNMT certification. CPR certification. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Make independent professional decisions pertaining to high‑quality patient care. Have a high degree of technical skill and be able to function with minimal assistance. Conscientious practice of high‑quality patient care and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with established time constraints. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life‑threatening disease. Work rotating shifts any day of the week and rotate to the Crystal Lake facility. Be able to handle radiation exposure and deal with extremely ill patients. Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; for lifts over 35 pounds use patient handling equipment and at least one other associate.
