We’re partnering with a profitable, founder-transitioned distribution company in the Tampa Bay area to find a Senior Accountant who wants real ownership and a clear path to the Controller seat.

About the opportunity

Our client is a privately held, employee-first organization with a leadership team that listens, recognizes great work often, and values balance. Think casual dress, early finishes, and the occasional surprise day off! The Controller is leading a major ERP implementation, so this person will take ownership of day-to-day transactional accounting and work closely with the CFO. For the right candidate, this role can grow into the Controller position and become the CFO’s right hand. It’s a hands-on role, not a spectator seat.

What you’ll do

• Prepare month-end journal entries and maintain balance sheet, bank, and borrowing base reconciliations
• Perform detailed variance analysis across inventory, cash, overhead, AP, and AR
• Audit inventory movement and landed cost calculations; resolve purchase price variances, unit-of-measure discrepancies, and freight accruals
• Support multi-state sales and use tax compliance, resale certificate validation, 1099 reporting, and corporate filings
• Maintain working proficiency across 3-way match AP, overhead AP, and commercial AR, and provide coverage when needed
• Support the CFO with financial reporting, cash flow modeling, internal control reviews, and process mapping for the ERP migration

What you bring

• BS in Accounting or Finance
• 4 to 7+ years of progressive, hands-on GL experience in wholesale distribution, manufacturing, or physical inventory environments
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, variance analysis)
• Working knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax and resale certificate management (Avalara experience is a plus)
• ERP experience is a plus, not required
• A roll-up-your-sleeves mindset and a genuine curiosity to learn every facet of the business
• Someone leadership can trust and develop into a long-term partner

CPA not required. Distribution experience, operational grit, and GL problem-solving matter more than letters after your name.
