Education administrators set educational standards and goals and establish the policies and procedures required to achieve them. They also supervise managers, support staff, teachers, counselors, librarians, coaches, and other employees. They develop academic programs, monitor students¿ educational progress, train and motivate teachers and other staff, manage career counseling and other student services, administer recordkeeping, prepare budgets, and perform many other duties. They also handle relations with parents, prospective and current students, employers, and the community. In a smaller organization such as a small day care center, one administrator may handle all these functions. In universities or large school systems, responsibilities are divided among many administrators, each with a specific function.
How does it get done? Oversee Juvenile Justice School (50%)
- Serves as the chief administrative officer of the Juvenile Justice Schools, managing daily operations, supervising school principals and district staff, and ensures that the schools operate according to educational regulations.
- Develop and recommend district objectives, long- range plans, and educational programs aligned with the agency¿s vision.
- Oversees the Juvenile Justice School¿s education budget, allocates resources appropriately and ensure fiscal responsibility to support educational programs.
- Responsibilities include hiring, evaluating, and retaining qualified staff, ensuring proper certification and licensure, professional development, and addressing performance or misconduct issues. Direct supervision of school principals and directors.
- In consultation with school leadership, guide curriculum development, monitor student achievement and implement programs to enhance
- Maintains effective communication with staff, parents, and community members.
Oversee Educational Success of Foster Students (50%)
- Develop networks and alliances within CYFD and with State and Local Education agencies and community partners; collaborate across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals regarding educational outcomes for foster students.
- Establish goals and strategies in collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team that relates to the education of foster students.
- Ensure that established CYFD standards, goals, policies and procedures are communicated and work collaboratively across CYFD functional groups to ensure effective implementation.
- Provide leadership, professional development, technical consultation, training, and direction to school districts, community-based organizations, and other educational entities regarding the unique educational needs of foster students.
- Identify, develop, evaluate, review and improve educational support for foster students within CYFD and statewide.
Activities may include:
- Develop educational materials, technical assistance manuals, and related publications based on this research.
- Plan, develop, and deliver professional development activities to Foster Parents, CYFD staff and external partners covering a broad range of educational content relevant to foster students.
Ideal Candidate Ideal Candidate for this position will directly related experience in educational oversight, budgetary experience, and experience communicating and presenting data.
Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and nine (9) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling thirteen (13) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting: late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel is required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
