For exact salary information please refer to the current salary schedule: Salary Schedule Community Outreach Coordinator I – $20.20 – $25.80 Community Outreach Coordinator II – $22.99 – $29.38 Community Outreach Coordinator I General Statement of Duties: Under direct supervision at the entry level and general supervision of the journey level, performs basic support functions in clinics and community settings and serves as a vital link between communities and health services to promote health among individuals, families and groups who lack access to adequate care and services. Assists in the development and implementation of comprehensive community‑based education and prevention programs; processes documents, implements records management, and assists with educational materials and performs other related duties as required. This classification may be flexibly staffed, if allocated to the hiring department as flexibly staffed. Reports to: Deputy Director of Public Health Education, Public Health Project Coordinator, Deputy Director of Public Health, Women Infant Children (WIC) Program Manager. Classifications Supervised: This is not a supervisory class. Essential Functions: Assists various Public Health professionals and technical staff in providing outreach services in the community. Makes appointments, keeps records, gathers data, writes reports, interviews clients, assists in developing solutions to emergency problems and expediting delivery of needed services, and may conduct limited basic health screening and assessments. Assists in teaching basic health practices to clients and families, reinforcing basic public health concepts of prevention and health care, nutrition, hygiene, oral health, tobacco and drug‑free activities and related topics. Stores information for future reference, participates in development of programs and delivery of services for high‑risk groups, provides basic community health education to clients, community groups, inmates and interested parties, explains available community resources, confers with professional staff to evaluate client needs, and may serve on committees or confer with other agencies or departments. Requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals who may not share basic commonality, including value system and behavior norms. Knowledge of: Basic individual and community public health needs, including community resources. Basic principles of human behavior. Report writing, data gathering and record‑keeping practices. Basic computer and office automation technology and software relevant to department operations. Interview principles and practices. Basic principles and techniques of teaching and counseling. Knowledge of normal child growth and development. Knowledge of parent‑child relationships. Knowledgeable about community resources. Desired Skills: Function effectively as a health care team member. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, the general public and with culturally diverse or economically disadvantaged clients. Learn a wide variety of public health programs and procedures; understand and follow technical written and oral directions. Work effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups. Make verbal presentations to highly diverse community groups. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients and the community. Be non‑judgmental and maintain personal/programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services. Task oriented; behavior supports beginning and completing a project/task within a specific time frame. Education: High school diploma. CPR certification. Special Requirements: Possession of a valid CA driver’s license is required. Community Outreach Coordinator I assigned to the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Division will be required to complete the WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA) training and 1,000 hours of experience within 6–12 months after hire. Upon successful completion, the employee will receive a certificate of competency. Community Outreach Coordinator II General Statement of Duties: Under direct supervision at the entry level and general supervision of the journey level, performs basic support functions in clinics and community settings and serves as a vital link between communities and health services to promote health among individuals, families and groups who lack access to adequate care and services. Assists in the development and implementation of comprehensive community‑based education and prevention programs; processes documents, implements records management, and assists with educational materials and performs other related duties as required. This classification is a for‑cause, non‑exempt position. Reports to: Deputy Director of Public Health Education, Public Health Project Coordinator, Deputy Director of Public Health, Women Infant Children (WIC) Program Manager. Classifications Supervised: This is not a supervisory class. Essential Functions: Identical to the mandatory obligations outlined for Community Outreach Coordinator I, with the additional expectation of senior experience and independent supervision of activities. Knowledge of: Basic individual and community public health needs, including community resources. Basic principles of human behavior, report writing, data gathering and record‑keeping practices. Basic computer and office automation technology and software relevant to department operations. Interview principles and practices. Basic principles and techniques of teaching and counseling, knowledge of normal child growth and development, and parent‑child relationships. Knowledgeable about community resources. Desired Skills: Function effectively as a health care team member. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, the general public and with culturally diverse or economically disadvantaged clients. A Community Outreach Coordinator II assigned to the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Division must have the WIC Nutrition Assistant Training Certificate of Competency and 1,000 hours of experience prior to being hired. Typical Physical Requirements: Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; stool, kneel and crouch to pick up or move objects; normal manual dexterity and eye‑hand coordination; ability to lift, push, carry and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including telephone, calculator, copiers, and fax.
