Senior Project Engineer, P.E.

We partner closely with architects, landscape architects, developers, and municipalities across the country and internationally. Position Summary GPSI is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer with a strong MEP background to serve as a technical engineer and project manager in our Design Studio. This role is the engineer of record for Design Studio work, signing and sealing engineering documents, and leads projects from schematic design through construction administration. We want this person to have experience with Revit/BIM or civil site engineering, and to build that capability across the studio by developing standards and training our staff. Water feature experience is a plus but not required. The expectation is not only that this person applies their specialty to their own projects, but that the Design Studio is measurably better at it a year after they arrive, because they built the standards and taught the staff. Key Responsibilities Engineering and Technical Leadership Serve as Professional Engineer of record, reviewing, signing, and sealing Design Studio construction design drawings, specifications, and calculations. Lead and review MEP design for water feature systems, applying core MEP principles (pumps and hydraulics, piping, electrical power, and controls) to filtration, water treatment, and equipment room layout. Establish and enforce design criteria, calculation methods, and code compliance, including documentation through the studio’s Basis of Design process. Conduct QA/QC reviews of drawing sets and technical deliverables at each phase before issue. Mentor associate and project engineers on engineering judgment, calculations, and technical documentation. Project Management Manage assigned projects across Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration. Own project scope, schedule, staffing, and fee performance; track progress and budget in the studio’s project management system. Identify scope changes early. Support additional services, RFI responses, submittal reviews, and change-order evaluation. Support early coordination with GPSI’s Construction Division to protect design intent and constructability through handoff. Client and Design Team Collaboration Work side by side with GPSI architectural and landscape designers to translate design intent into buildable, code-compliant engineering. Coordinate directly with architects, landscape architects, and consulting engineers (structural, MEP, civil) on utilities, equipment space, power, and structural interfaces. Represent GPSI in client meetings, design reviews, and site visits with a clear, collaborative, and professional presence. Specialty Leadership and Staff Training Bring technical expertise in Revit/BIM or civil site engineering and build it into a studio-wide capability. Revit/BIM : Lead the Design Studio’s adoption of Revit, including templates, families, standards, and workflows, and coordinate GPSI models with architects’ and engineers’ BIM models. Civil : Support site grading, drainage, stormwater, and utility coordination at water feature interfaces, and develop related details and standards. Develop and deliver training for studio staff and contribute to CAD/BIM standards and related SOPs. Competencies and Cultural Fit Technical rigor : Owns the seal. Sets design criteria and holds the line on code, calculation, and completeness. Teaching instinct : Raises the floor for everyone. Build standards people actually use and train them to use them. Design partnership : Translates design intent into buildable engineering without flattening the artistry. Fee and schedule ownership : Treats scope, staffing, and fee as theirs to manage. Say the hard things : Tells a designer or client early when something will not work, and why. Chain respect : Works peer-to-peer with field crews, the Construction Division, and consultants. Figure it out : Resourceful where no precedent exists. Put a bow on it : Sweats the details on spaces people will experience for decades. Required Qualifications Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas at time of hire. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Minimum of 8 years of progressive engineering experience. MEP design experience, including hydraulic, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical systems design and documentation. Advanced proficiency in Revit (templates, families, standards, BIM coordination) or experience in civil site engineering (grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities). Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, including production of construction drawings. Experience managing projects, including scope, schedule, and fee, through Construction Administration. Experience coordinating with architects and/or landscape architects on building or site projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to design-focused clients. Preferred Qualifications Experience with water features, aquatics, fountains, pools, or water treatment systems. Expertise in both Revit or civil site engineering. NCEES Record and/or P.E. licensure in additional states. Experience with BIM coordination tools (for example, Navisworks or BIM 360/ACC). Experience training or mentoring technical staff and leading standards development. Background at a small-to-mid firm where breadth of responsibility was required. Location and Work Model This is an on-site role in Carrollton, Texas. The engineering, QA/QC, mentoring, and training responsibilities of this position depend on being in the studio with the team. Working Conditions Fast-paced, multi-project studio environment with high autonomy and clear accountability. Regular coordination with the Construction Division, field operations, clients, consultants, and trade partners. Client meetings, design reviews, and site visits, with travel of up to 10%.
