About the Role

We are seeking a Solution Architect with deep experience in IBM mainframe environments and modern AWS/Java/Spring Boot architecture. This role supports modernization and integration efforts within the Administration’s technology ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

- Architect hybrid mainframe + cloud solutions using IBM z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, DB2, and AWS services.

- Design modernization pathways for legacy workloads using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and AWS Mainframe Modernization.

- Develop integration patterns between mainframe systems and cloud-native applications (REST APIs, event-driven services).

- Lead solution design sessions with administrations stakeholders, engineering teams, and modernization partners.

- Translate legacy business logic into scalable, secure, cloud-ready architectures.

- Ensure compliance with federal security, audit, and federal IT standards.

- Support Agile delivery across multi-year modernization initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

- 10+ years working with IBM mainframe technologies (COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, DB2).

- 5+ years architecting AWS solutions (Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS PostgreSQL, IAM, KMS).

- Strong background in Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and enterprise integration.

- Experience with AWS Mainframe Modernization or equivalent migration frameworks.

- Ability to design strangler fig migration patterns and coexistence architectures.

- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with federal stakeholders.

- Must be able to work on site in Woodlawn, MD Monday–Friday.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior experience federal entitlement programs.

- Experience with mainframe-to-cloud data migration (VSAM, DB2 → AWS RDS/S3).

- Familiarity with SSA’s environment and modernization roadmap.

- Experience with enterprise print systems (EPA) modernization.

- Background in Agile delivery within federal environments.
