Location Sussex Campus Hospital Status Full Time 80 Hours Shift Days SALARY RANGE 25.09 - 37.64 HOURLY General Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care to patients within the Oncology Service Line. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills are performed in accordance with Bayhealth policies. After competency verification, the LPN may deliver patient care services to the adult and geriatric populations. Care may include, but is not limited to, obtaining and recording in the medical record: blood pressure, pulse, temperature and pulse oximetry, drawing blood, EKG, administering oral medications, transporting patients, obtaining urine and stool specimens, performing point‑of‑care testing, and assisting with procedures consistent with the scope of the employee’s position (e.g., dressing changes, grooming, toileting, ambulating, transferring, observing, and reporting the general well‑being of the person(s) to whom they are providing care). Responsibilities Read and interpret documents such as doctors’ orders, medication names, and lab tests. Perform focal assessments for established inpatients. Provide general basic nursing care: positioning patients, lifting and turning, assisting in use of bedpan, commode, urinal or bathroom, and weighing. Provide exceptional customer service that aligns with the Planetree philosophy. Perform routine, uncomplicated treatment procedures including enemas, application of hot and cold compresses, dressing changes, wound cleansing, obtaining vital signs (including orthostatic vital signs and rectal temperatures) and splinting of extremities; collect and record intake and output. Prepare and administer oral medications as ordered by the physician or APC. Review medication history with patient. Assist with minor medical/surgical procedures in the practice setting. Perform venipuncture for blood drawing and monitoring patients before, during, and after withdrawal. Transport patients using wheelchair or stretcher within offices and to/from vehicles; assist patients requiring help with ambulation. Identify the need for patient education and advise patients on their treatment plan. Recognize abnormal lab results. Document treatment records for each patient; immediately report any observed changes in condition or behavior and unusual incidents in an acceptable medical‑legal fashion. Set up for suturing and procedures, using sterile technique; dismantle procedure set and care for soiled instruments safely. Maintain competency in specialized testing for Occupational Health (Hearing Booth, Fit testing, Titmus, PFT, Ishahara, Drug screen collections, Breath Alcohol Testing, DS Hair Collections and other required testing). Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and established guidelines. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission regulations and other safety requirements; dispose of sharps, contaminated materials and safely store medications. Re‑order supplies as required and within budgetary limitations. Maintain work station cleanliness, restock linen and supplies, and perform general cleaning duties. Engage in annual self‑assessment, seeking and reflecting on constructive feedback; act to achieve performance goals. Participate in ongoing educational activities to acquire and validate knowledge (e.g., BLS, NAPPP). Maintain professional affiliations and attend regular staff meetings. Perform all other tasks and projects assigned by the Charge Nurse/Clinical Coordinator; may act as backup for other staff members. Interact with and contribute to the professional development of peers and healthcare providers; share knowledge and skills, provide constructive feedback. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities. Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience Education: Certificate Program; Licensed Practical Nurse; or equivalent credit hours in an RN program. Credential(s): Basic Life Support, Licensed Practical Nurse. Experience: New graduates may be considered. Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience Education: None.
