Structural Project Manager I - Architecture

This role requires providing technical expertise and project management in structural engineering for architectural projects through all phases of HNTB’s complex building projects, including sports, aviation, government, rail, and transit structures. The position may serve as Project Manager (PM) or Structural Discipline Task Manager (TM) for assigned projects and includes leadership and mentoring of structural engineering staff. Responsibilities Develop strategic plans, estimates, fees, and scopes, and prepare proposals and contracts. Manage client budget, schedule, and program, and oversee HNTB’s budget and schedule as primary liaison. Administer project communications, documentation, and office administrative tasks. Lead coordination of all project efforts, ensuring efficient and cost-effective execution. Communicate labor and resource needs to office and market sector leadership; prepare documentation for monthly project reviews. Develop creative structural design solutions from concept through final design, integrating quality control measures. Provide structural engineering services during bidding, construction, submittal review, and site observation. Coordinate design and provide technical direction with multi-disciplined architectural teams. Recruit, hire, develop, and retain staff, and manage performance and compensation reviews. Promote building structural engineering awareness across HNTB offices. Support HNTB’s business development and marketing efforts. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field. Ten years of relevant experience. Core Skills and Experience Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with SE1 exam passed. Core structural engineering skills in steel, concrete, and masonry. Proficiency in wind and seismic load analysis. Ability to develop detailed calculations and drawings for construction. Deep understanding of building codes (IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI). Proficiency with Revit/BIM 360 and RISA, SAP2000, or ETABS software. Experience leading a team of structural engineers and mentoring junior staff. Budget planning and successful delivery of multiple $15M+ projects on time and within budget. Preferred Qualifications Experience with MS Project, Primavera P6, or other work‑planning tools. Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) with SE2 exam passed. Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a focus on structures.
