Teaching Associate, UWMDI - Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition

The Department of Medicine, Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition at the University of Washington invites applications for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), which is a faculty position at the rank of Teaching Associate with an anticipated start date of September 2026. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month service period [July 1-June 30].

The base salary range for this position will be $10,834- $13,334 per month ($130,008 - $160,008 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

The APP will provide consultative specialty diabetes care to patients in coordination with Endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, and ancillary support staff at the University of Washington Medicine Diabetes Institute (UWMDI). The APP is responsible for providing patient care independently and collaboratively with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patient's medical, physical and psychosocial status.

Position responsibilities include:

• Provide timely initial and ongoing patient assessment for diabetes management.
• Participate in the assessment, planning, care implementation and evaluation of the hyperglycemic patient requiring urgent outpatient care.
• Participate in the assessment, planning, care implementation, and evaluation of established patients in the UWMDI.
• Attend UWMDI Service meetings with UWMDI faculty and support staff.
• Collaborate with the UWMDI supervising physician, the UWMDI certified diabetes RN's, the UWMDI certified diabetes educator RD's, the UWMDI PharmD's, and other providers to ensure coordination and continuity of diabetes care across settings and over time.
• Attend appropriate clinical meetings to serve as a resource for staff and providers.
• Facilitate collaboration with referring care providers to ensure continuity of care.
• Provide patient and/or family with health education, counseling and referrals to other health professionals and community resources as appropriate.
• Participate as a key member of the interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices and evaluation of patient care outcomes.
• Evaluate quality outcomes for the UWMDI through participation in the development of quality indicators.

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications:

• Current and valid Washington state ARNP or PA Licensure.
• Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or PA-C Program or foreign equivalent.
• Nationally certified APP with DEA or foreign equivalent.
• Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
• Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in the care of patients with hyperglycemia.
• Training and experience in Diabetes Care and inpatient Glycemic Control management preferred but not required.
• Certification as an Advanced Diabetes Management ARNP or PA and critical care experience preferred.
