Freelance Assistant Sweater Designer

We are looking for a Freelance Assistant Sweater Designer a top fashion company in New York, New York. This role supports the design and development of womens and mens sweater/knitwear collections from concept through production. The designer will partner closely with merchandising, technical design, and production teams to deliver commercially viable product aligned with seasonal direction.
- Hourly pay rate up to $27.00 based on experience
- Assisting with sweater design concepts (yarns, stitches, patterns, silhouettes)
- Creating technical flats and design sketches in Adobe Illustrator
- Supporting tech pack creation and sample development
- Participating in fittings, tracking revisions, and managing timelines
- Collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams and overseas vendors
- 1+ years of experience in apparel design, preferably knitwear/sweaters
- Strong Adobe Illustrator skills (Photoshop and PLM a plus)
- Solid understanding of knitwear construction, yarns, and sampling
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
