Job Description
Lab Generalist with Phlebotomy

Position Overview

This position involves supporting and communicating the laboratory's initiatives and philosophies while performing a variety of laboratory procedures. The lab generalist will handle specimen collection, processing, and analysis across multiple departments within the clinical laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and receive specimens including blood, urine, fecal, and body fluids for analysis.
• Evaluate and solve problems related to specimen collection and processing for all age ranges.
• Participate in the evaluation of new laboratory techniques and procedures, including cost assessment and reference interval establishment.
• Perform complex laboratory procedures and identify deviations from expected results, applying scientific principles for correction.
• Analyze quality control data, make judgments on results, and take appropriate actions to ensure accuracy and precision.
• Respond to inquiries regarding test results, methodology, specificity, sensitivity, and factors influencing test results.
• Review instrument indicators and temperature monitors in the laboratory departments.
• Maintain self-competency in laboratory skills and keep up-to-date with laboratory practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred; an Associate's degree may be acceptable for grandfathered personnel.
• Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) (ASCP) or equivalent is required.
• New MT graduates must pass the certification exam within six months from the start date.

Additional Information

This role does not require weekend shifts, and while on-call duties may be necessary, they are not mandatory. Familiarity with laboratory analyzers such as Abbott Alinity, ACL Tops 350, Gene Expert, Beckman Coulter, Torch, and Clinitek is preferred but not mandatory.
