Controller (Non-Profit)

Atrium is seeking on behalf of our client a Controller based in Atlanta, GA. A background check may be run only after a conditional offer is made, where permitted by law. Position Overview The Controller will oversee all aspects of accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with applicable standards. This role will partner closely with leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making and organizational sustainability. The Controller will also play a key role in process improvement and cross-functional collaboration to align financial practices with organizational goals. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Responsibilities Oversee daily accounting operations, month‑end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial planning. Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and audit requirements. Coordinate audit preparation, schedules, and reporting requests. Provide financial analysis, dashboards, and reporting to leadership. Track program and funding‑related financial activity, including restricted funds. Identify process and system improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Partner cross‑functionally to support organizational financial goals. Required Experience/Skills Progressive accounting and finance leadership experience in mission‑driven or service‑based organizations. Strong background in full‑cycle accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audits. Ability to operate in a hands‑on controller‑style role while supporting leadership decisions. Experience with Excel, ERP/accounting systems, and financial reporting tools. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial data to non‑finance teams. High attention to detail, integrity, and collaborative mindset. Preferred Experience/Skills Experience with grants, restricted funds, or multi‑department budgeting. Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and compliance requirements. Background in process improvement and systems optimization. Experience building dashboards and financial reports. Knowledge of GAAP and external audit support. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. MBA or Master’s degree is a plus. Additional nonprofit finance or compliance training preferred.
