Phlebotomist, PRN

Iron County Medical Center (ICMC) has an opening for a PRN PHLEBOTOMIST , this is an on-call position with no set schedule. Responsibilities: PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for this position include, but are not limited to , the following: Must acknowledge and continuously demonstrate that the patient always comes first. Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks; obtains urine and bodily fluid samples through proper protocols, always following established chain of custody. Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique following department procedures. Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug does to collection time. Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting time of collection; maintains daily tallies of collections performed; performs date entry of appropriate collection information. Monitors glucose levels by performing bedside glucose tests, recording results and reporting results to appropriate medical personnel. Performs bleeding-times tests by entering results to the computer; notifies appropriate personnel of results falling outside normal ranges. Resolve unusual test orders by contacting physician, pathologist, nursing station or reference lab; refers unresolved orders back to originator for further clarification, keeping supervisor advised of unresolved orders. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with all laboratory regulations (CLIA) Skills and Abilities: Required Education, Knowledge, and Skills : High school graduate with phlebotomy certification and minimum of 2 years’ experience preferred. Good organizational skills with ability to prioritize assigned tasks and strong attention to detail. Ability to plan workflow and implement appropriate actions. Knowledge of current computer technology, EMR in general, and various common software applications Strong interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in team environment and excellent patient service/relationship skills. Previous hospital or medical office experience is desired. Must be able to multi-task, exercise good judgment, be dependable, and capable of independently carrying out assigned tasks and day-to-day duties efficiently, effectively, and courteously.
