Description Schedule - 24hour variable shifts 7a - 7a, 8a- 8a, 9a- 9a Position Summary Administers life support care to the sick and injured in a pre-hospital setting as authorized by written protocol and directed by medical control in performing the following duties. Position Accountabilities Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety and infection control standards Consistently and accurately adheres to all NHS EMS standard operating guidelines, policies, procedures and practices. Observe and perform paramedic level assessment of patients' trauma or medical related condition: recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious situations and informs Medical Control. Initiates appropriate measures and treatment according to NHS EMS protocols and as advised by Medical Control. Operates and monitors specialized equipment including but not limited to mechanical cardiopulmonary resuscitators, ECG monitors, cardiac defibrillator and pacemaker, advanced airway and suction equipment, oxygen delivery devices, ventilators, and IV infusion pumps per paramedic protocols and Medical Control. Obtains a history on each patient's past and present medical problems, medications, and allergies. Administers emergency medication as per protocols and / or Medical Control orders in accordance with paramedic procedures. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed per protocol or Medical Control, including but not limited to initiation of IV fluids, cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, tracheal intubation and chest decompression. Strong organizational skills required, with the ability to effectively delegate responsibilities to other employees, and follow up as needed. Demonstrates ability to respond quickly and make decisions using good judgment under stress in hazardous situations and human relationships. Timely completes ambulance run sheets and refusal forms, efficiently documenting all medical care and/or treatment, all patient information, any insurance information and any and all other information requested. Documentation is expected to be completed in same shift as call, with accurate and appropriate information. Communicates with NHS EMS Dispatchers and other agencies while in transport or responding to calls. Utilizes proper radio technique according to the EMD system, FCC regulations, and Cherokee County Communications Center and Ambulance Service standard operating procedures. Consistently adheres to standard operating guidelines, policies, procedures and practices regarding the protection and respect of confidential patient and employee information, and looks out for and reports deficiencies. Efficiently operates machines including, but not limited to, computer systems, keyboards, adding, calculating, facsimile, printers, shredders, telephones, two-way radios, scanners and duplicating machines. Operates an ambulance vehicle; responds to emergency and non-emergency calls; transports patients. Must have a general knowledge of Cherokee County and the primary coverage area assigned to, and the ability to read and comprehend maps and directions. Shares responsibility for inventory of and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment as well as general upkeep and cleaning of the ambulance vehicle. Performs shift check of all supplies and equipment in ambulance and ambulance maintenance check according to NHS EMS standard operating procedures and guidelines Consistently adheres to safe workplace standard operating guidelines, policies, procedures and practices, and looks out for and reports deficiencies. Shares responsibility for security of buildings and personnel. Timely completes incident reports as required or as necessary to assure proper documentation to protect NHS EMS staff, the company, and the patient. Performs regular cleaning duties to maintain a clean, neat and safe work environment. Matins personal responsibility of time clock/ entry verification. Be responsible for the on duty position and to not leave the position until proper relief is obtained Attend required meetings and training sessions necessary to maintain efficiency, accuracy and knowledge Maintain an acceptable attendance record, with regular and reliable attendance, on site at a designated NHS EMS workplace Be responsible to provide direction and instruction to EMT students of all levels of training while students are on ambulance clinical training, up to the employee's own level of licensure. May be called upon from time to time to provide public relation type work in the community (e.g. blood pressure clinics, ambulance tours, etc.). As assigned, assists and mentors other staff (including students if applicable) in order to help onboard and educate newly hired employees and/or employees changing job duties or positions. The schedule may vary as needed to facilitate the needs of NHS EMS, and may include weekdays and weekends, daytime, evening, and night time hours, consecutive shifts, and/or holidays to be worked. The schedule may include mandatory and/or voluntary overtime with frequent long, unpredictable hours. The employee must have the ability to maintain assigned work hours The schedule may include interrupted, irregular and unpredictable meal and/or other breaks.

Also consistently demonstrates the following abilities and characteristics: be respectful to supervisors, peers, subordinates, customers and other persons regardless of position within the company, gender, race, age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or other characteristics or perspectives; exhibits professionalism; teamwork, avoids unnecessary conflict, positive and optimistic attitude and work ethic; willingness to be flexible and adaptable; show initiative; does not participate in gossip or spreading rumors; and uphold the mission and core values of NHS EMS. Requirements Education and/ or Experience: Minimum of a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED), Successful completion of EMT-Paramedic level programs utilizing D.O.T. National Standard Curriculum, D.O.T. National Standard Curriculum, College level course work preferred but not required. One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred, but not required CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a current EMT-P license from the Oklahoma State Department of Health/EMS Division. Must keep all knowledge and skills current through specific continued education as required by NHS EMS and by the Oklahoma State Department of Health/EMS Division for re-licensure.
