Automation Engineer, Protein Therapeutics

Gilead Sciences seeks an Automation Engineer to design and implement scalable laboratory automation solutions for protein therapeutics discovery and development. The role involves leading high-throughput workflow development across antibody discovery, biologics engineering, and protein sciences, based in Foster City, California.
Responsibilities
- Scope, design, build, and implement laboratory automation workcell solutions integrating commercial and internal systems
- Partner with functional teams to identify automation opportunities and develop scalable high-throughput workflows
- Lead development, optimization, and qualification of automated workflows to improve throughput and data quality
- Provide programming and integration support for automation platforms, instruments, and laboratory information management systems
- Evaluate emerging technologies and lead implementation of new automation capabilities aligned with departmental strategy
Requirements
- 10+ years experience with Bachelor's degree, or 8+ years with Master's degree, or 2+ years with PhD/PharmD
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and integrating high-throughput laboratory automation workflows
- Expertise in laboratory robotics, liquid-handling platforms, and integrated automation systems
- Experience translating scientific workflows into automated methods and deploying them operationally
- Familiarity with antibody discovery, biologics engineering, protein expression and purification processes
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C++, or related languages
- Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to collaborate across scientific teams
Compensation: $195,670–$253,220 base
