About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:45 - 19:15 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2+ years License: RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - Stepdown experience - Telemetry experience Description: Primary patient population includes cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery. Common procedures involve open heart surgery, thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Also receive overflow patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block. The unit has 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds and approximately 100 staff members. Staffing includes charge RNs, RNs, patient care technicians, and health unit coordinators. Patient ratios are 1:5 for RNs and 1:13 for patient care technicians. Utilized equipment includes various types of IV pumps and lifts. The electronic medical record system is Cerner. Candidates with prior experience in cardiovascular and vascular surgery populations are preferred. Typical procedures performed on this unit include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, and IV gluccomander. Management of various cardiac drips is also required. The ideal candidate is a team player who enjoys a fast-paced environment and exhibits flexibility. Weekend and holiday requirements involve a minimum of six weekend shifts during a six-week schedule.
