DIRECTOR OF BETHESDA NORTH POINTE

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary: The Housing Director is responsible for the overall leadership, operations, occupancy growth, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and resident experience at Bethesda North Pointe. This position provides strategic and day-to-day oversight of the community, ensuring high-quality housing, services, and programming that support resident well-being, engagement, and satisfaction. The Housing Director serves as the primary leader for resident relations, admissions, service coordination, accounts receivable, resident billing, and community enhancements. The position oversees building operations in partnership with the maintenance team and provides leadership to nursing, housekeeping, culinary, and administrative support functions to ensure a safe, welcoming, and resident-centered environment. 

This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with Minnesota Assisted Living regulations, Housing with Services requirements, landlord-tenant laws, and all applicable organizational policies and procedures. The Housing Director monitors operational and financial performance, manages resources responsibly, and works within approved budgets to achieve organizational goals and maintain high standards of quality and service.

The Housing Director collaborates with Bethesda leadership and support teams to drive occupancy growth through marketing, community outreach, tours, events, referral development, and prospect management. The Housing Director also partners in the development and implementation of Housing Division policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives that support growth, compliance, operational excellence, and resident satisfaction.

As a leader within the community, the Housing Director promotes Bethesda’s mission, values, and culture while fostering meaningful connections with residents, families, team members, referral partners, and the broader community. This position plays a key role in advancing resident and employee engagement while supporting organization-wide initiatives that enhance quality of life, fulfillment, and organizational success.

Job Relationships:

1. Reports to: Vice President of Senior Services
2. Interrelationships with: Regional Director of Clinical Operations and Compliance, Housing Directors, Director of Bethesda at Home, Club Bethesda and Adult Day Services
3. Supervisory responsibilities: Office Coordinator, Receptionist/Scheduling Coordinator, Head Chef, Housekeeping Lead, and RN Case Manager
4. External Contacts: Visitors, families, physicians, pharmacies, and discharge planners

Hours of Work: Salaried position, typically business hours Monday-Friday with some flexibility. May need to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate staff and prospective residents and families. 

Dress Code: Professional dress appropriate to a business environment.

Essential Requirements of Position: (Minimum qualifications necessary to function in role.)

1. Education and Training: Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience within the continuum of long-term services and supports, including one (1) year in a supervisory or management role; OR
2. Associate degree plus one (1) year of experience within the continuum of long-term services and supports, including six (6) months in a supervisory or management role; OR
3. Bachelor's Degree or higher plus six (6) months of supervisory or management experience within the continuum of long-term services and supports.

Licensure:

1. Assisted Living Director License preferred at time of hire.
2. Must obtain Assisted Living Director Licensure within one year of employment if not currently licensed.

1. Experience: The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas

1. Two to five years of management or leadership experience. 
2. Demonstrated success in relationship management and customer service. 
3. Knowledge of Minnesota housing regulations, home care requirements, and landlord-tenant laws. 
4. Experience working with older adults and senior living communities. 
5. Experience managing budgets, occupancy, and operational performance.

1. Additional Qualifications:

1. This position requires occasional flexibility to work weekends and evenings as necessary.

Physical Demands of the Job: Light duty work requiring extended periods of sitting and computer keyboarding. Lifting of materials and set-up required for internal and external events.

Principle Job Responsibilities:

Responsibility: Resident Services, Resident Relations, and Census Growth

Tasks:

1. Lead occupancy and census growth initiatives through relationship-building and community outreach. 
2. Conduct tours, educational sessions, and consultations with prospective residents and families. 
3. Develop and maintain positive relationships with current residents and their support systems. 
4. Coordinate resident meetings and ongoing communication efforts. 
5. Execute lease agreements and ensure compliance with housing requirements. 
6. Oversee service agreements and rental agreements. 
7. Manage resident onboarding and orientation processes. 
8. Maintain resident records, files, and documentation. 
9. Update resident handbooks, policies, and resident selection guidelines as needed. 
10. Address resident concerns and oversee grievance resolution processes. 
11. Promote participation in health and supportive services within the community.

Responsibility: Quality, Compliance, and Resident Care Oversight

Tasks: 

1. Support and oversee resident admission and ongoing assessment processes. 
2. Monitor resident health and wellness needs and facilitate appropriate referrals and services. 
3. Communicate effectively with residents, families, healthcare providers, therapists, and community resources. 
4. Assist in developing individualized service plans and nursing service packages. 
5. Ensure compliance with applicable housing, assisted living, and licensing regulations. 
6. Maintain standards that meet or exceed resident expectations and regulatory requirements. 
7. Monitor dining services to ensure resident satisfaction, nutritional quality, and service excellence. 
8. Conduct regular facility rounds to evaluate cleanliness, safety, maintenance, and overall appearance. 
9. Foster a culture focused on quality outcomes and resident well-being.

Responsibility: Financial Management

Tasks:

1. Oversee financial performance of Bethesda North Pointe. 
2. Monitor occupancy, revenue, expenses, and operational metrics. 
3. Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies. 
4. Manage resources responsibly while maintaining high-quality resident services. 
5. Develop and administer annual operating budgets in collaboration with the Vice President of Senior Services
6. Analyze financial reports and implement corrective action plans as needed.

Responsibility: Leadership and Staff Development

Tasks:

1. Collaborate with Scheduling Coordinator to ensure appropriate staffing levels. 
2. Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, and staffing coverage. 
3. Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement initiatives. 
4. Ensure staff training and education comply with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. 
5. Facilitate team meetings and promote effective communication across departments. 
6. Coach and mentor staff members to support professional development and performance excellence. 
7. Promote a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.

Responsibility: Community Engagement and Public Relations

Tasks:

1. Represent Bethesda North Pointe in the community and cultivate relationships with referral sources. 
2. Promote the organization's mission, values, and services through networking and outreach activities. 
3. Develop partnerships that support resident needs and organizational growth. 
4. Serve as an ambassador for Bethesda North Pointe within the broader community.

Tasks:

1. Participate in the annual performance evaluation process. 
2. Establish and work toward annual professional development goals. 
3. Attend required education, training, and in-service programs. 
4. Remain informed regarding industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices.
