Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN)

We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN) to join our professional team in a dynamic psychiatric unit. This role involves providing compassionate and effective care to patients facing various behavioral health challenges.

Shift Details:

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Shift Schedule: Days, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required

Unit Information:

• General Adult Unit: 14 beds
• Special Care Unit: 8 beds
• Kids Unit: 14 beds

The nursing team operates as a single unit, which may involve caring for both adults and children, although a majority of the time will be spent in the adult unit. The nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 1:6 to 1:7, depending on staffing levels.

Patient Care Responsibilities:

• The RN will be responsible for managing the care of up to 7 patients and may be involved in admissions and discharges.
• Common diagnoses and patient conditions include:
• Schizophrenia
• Anxiety
• Bipolar Disorder
• Depression
• Suicidal Ideation

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience is required.
• Current BLS (AHA) certification.
• Strong de-escalation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients.
• Familiarity with Epic software for patient management is preferred.

Work Environment:

Nurses are expected to round every two hours and may assist with rounding if the unit is short-staffed. Nurse aides are available with a ratio of 1:14 when fully staffed. Basic respiratory therapy equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP is utilized in patient care. Please note that there is no requirement for IV titration.

Orientation and Policies:

• Unit-specific orientation will involve one shift in the adult unit and one in the kids unit.
• All RNs must pass an open book skills examination at orientation, requiring a score of 90% to continue employment.
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care; refusal to comply will lead to termination.
• Holiday coverage is required on an alternate basis.
