The Rail Electrical Worker Crew Chief will be charged with supervising staff to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, upgrade, and perform comprehensive preventive maintenance on assigned Rail electrical systems. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to communicate effectively with a diverse employee work group, proactively solve problems that impact service delivery, and encourage a safety culture while inspiring high standards of customer service excellence, as well as the ability to motivate employees through building respect and trust. About Metro Transit's Expanding Rail Division King County Metro Transit's Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transit's Link light rail service and City of Seattle’s streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 50-mile route from Federal Way to Lynnwood and a 6.6-mile route from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026, light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles, adding seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come. Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3 mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5 mile First Hill line, proudly serving the diverse and vibrant communities around Seattle’s downtown core. These rail services complement Metro's extensive fixed-route bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network that enables people to travel farther, faster, and more easily. This recruitment may immediately fill up to nine (9) Career Service positions and may also be used to establish an eligibility list for future Career Service, as well as any fully-benefitted Term-Limited Temporary (TLT)/Special Duty Assignment (SDA), vacancies, valid up to 12 months or until the list is exhausted, and at the discretion of the hiring authority. Anticipated Timelines This posting will remain open until filled. Initial application review will be conducted 14 days following the posting date of this announcement, or on or after August 10, 2026. Applications received after that date will be reviewed on a weekly basis. Interviews will be scheduled with selected candidates beginning the week of August 24, 2026, and ongoing thereafter until the positions is filled. As the Rail Electrical Worker Crew Chief, you will: Plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of journey-level workers and subordinates. Direct and supervise the erecting, maintaining, and repairing of assigned Rail electrical systems. Control and monitor workflow; ensure adherence to all maintenance schedules—prep timesheets. Prepare requisitions for tools, materials, equipment, and supplies and ensure proper storage. Prepare reports indicating the type and amount of repair work completed and materials used. Coordinate, deliver, and monitor subordinate participation in required safety, tools, materials, electrical, and related systems training. Respond to emergency calls for repairs during regular and non-working hours, as necessary. Provide technical assistance to subordinate staff, contractors, and employees of other jurisdictions. Train Rail electrical workers and subordinate staff in a small group setting or on the job. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of experience as a Rail Electrical Worker and two (2) years of experience successfully supervising electrical workers in the maintenance or construction of electrical systems AND any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position. Knowledge of required safety techniques and procedures in establishing maintenance and repair work sites. Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, that mirror Metro’s expectations and values. Knowledge and understanding of reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and drawings. Knowledge and understanding of electrical theory, high voltage work, and modern industrial controls. Ability to work in confined spaces or at heights from mechanical lift devices, support structures, and poles, indoors and outdoors, and in inclement weather. Knowledge of supervisory principles and ability to effectively engage in and sustain relationships with people from diverse cultures and socio-economic background. Knowledge of applicable tools, equipment, and hazardous material. Knowledge of related laws and codes, including advanced knowledge of electrical and safety codes and regulations. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with electrical trades. Skill in working at heights from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial equipment, and in confined space. Skill in operating and maintaining power tools, machinery, and equipment. Skill in problem-solving and ability to work within an active rail transit system. Skill in working on and around high-voltage equipment. Necessary Special Requirements A valid Driver's License, with an acceptable driving record. If you possess an out-of-state driver’s license, you must obtain a WA state license within 30 days of hire. Ability to obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s License, Washington State Flagger’s Certificate, Forklift Operator’s Certification, and First Aid Certification required within six months of hire. Washington State Journey Electrician License (EL01) or Journey Line Worker Certificate or equivalent. Class B Commercial Driver’s License, Washington State Flagger’s Certificate, Forklift Operator’s Certification, and First Aid Certification required within six months of hire. Work Schedule This position is full time, assigned 40 hours per week. Work schedule may include non- standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. This position is non- exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore overtime eligible, with prior supervisory approval.
