SPED Behavior Paraprofessional

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at South Hills Middle School as a SPED Behavior Paraprofessional. This full-time position involves supporting students with special needs, specifically those exhibiting behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers and other staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the academic and social development of all students.

Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, focusing on behavior management strategies.
- Provide direct support to students in the classroom, during transitions, and in other school settings to help them navigate their educational experience.
- Monitor student behavior and provide immediate intervention as needed to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to develop and maintain effective behavior intervention plans.
- Facilitate social skills development and support students in building positive relationships with peers.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, and communicate regularly with the educational team regarding student needs and progress.
- Participate in training and professional development to enhance skills in behavior management and special education practices.
- Assist in the supervision of students during lunch, recess, and other non-classroom activities to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
- Support the implementation of classroom routines and procedures to promote a structured and organized learning environment.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere that encourages student engagement and participation.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs or behavioral challenges, is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies for supporting students with diverse needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers and special education staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Physical ability to assist students as needed, including lifting or moving students and equipment.
- Background check clearance as required by school district policies.

This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment "at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411.

Employment is contingent upon board approval and successful completion of federal background check and drug-free workplace pre-employment screening.
