Overnight Pharmacist

The overnight pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, patient counseling and teaching.

General duties include:

• Interpreting medication orders and transcribing to computerized patient medication profiles accurately.
• Reviewing drug therapies for contraindications, interactions, allergies and appropriateness of orders for patients.
• Demonstrating the ability to assess and interpret age specific data.
• Contacting physician and clarifying medication orders and documenting interventions appropriately.
• Providing clinical consultation, drug information and clarification to practitioners, nursing staff, patients and family.
• Sustaining hospital formulary minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchange protocols and suggesting appropriate cost effective and therapeutic equivalent alternatives.
• Maintaining knowledge of Louisiana and Federal pharmacy laws and DEA regulations.
• Supervising and directing pharmacy support personnel.
• Verifying the Pharmacy Technician's appropriate dispensing of medications and preparation of non-sterile compounding as required by law/policies.
• Overseeing operation of the Pharmacy in the absence of the Pharmacy Supervisor as necessary.
• Working independently with minimal supervision; organizing and prioritizing work assignments and ensuring Pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner.
• Accurately dispensing medications and preparing sterile admixtures, including sterile products, chemotherapy and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN).
• Maintaining records for controlled substances as required by law and pharmacy policies.

Licenses and certifications required:

Licensed Pharmacist through the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
