Health Information Management Manager

HIM Manager 1201 West 38th Street Austin, TX (100% onsite) The manager must have an RHIT or RHIA certification to be hired on as a temp. The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and performance of Health Information Management operations. This role ensures the integrity, security, accessibility, and compliance of patient health information while supporting organizational objectives, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. The HIM Manager leads a team of HIM professionals and collaborates with clinical, operational, compliance, and technology stakeholders to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations Manage the daily operations of the HIM department, ensuring service level agreements and productivity targets are met. Lead, coach, and develop HIM staff, supervisors, and team leads. Establish departmental goals, monitor performance metrics, and implement process improvements. Ensure effective staffing, workload distribution, and resource utilization. Foster a culture of accountability, quality, and customer service. Health Information Management Oversee medical record completion, scanning, indexing, record maintenance, and release of information processes. Ensure the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and availability of patient health information. Monitor compliance with documentation standards and record retention requirements. Support audits and regulatory reviews as needed. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with HIPAA, state privacy laws, and organizational policies. Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Security teams on data protection and privacy initiatives. Investigate and resolve potential HIM-related compliance concerns. Maintain department readiness for internal and external audits. Quality & Performance Improvement Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, quality, turnaround times, and customer satisfaction. Identify trends and implement corrective actions to improve performance. Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies. Produce and present operational reports to leadership. Client & Stakeholder Partnership Serve as the primary HIM contact for operational and client stakeholders. Collaborate with clinical, revenue cycle, compliance, and IT teams to optimize workflows and documentation processes. Support organizational initiatives and client implementations related to HIM services. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of progressive HIM experience. Minimum 2 years of leadership or management experience. Working knowledge of HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, CMS regulations, and healthcare documentation practices. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and HIM technologies. Preferred Qualifications RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification. RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification. Experience in a multi-site healthcare environment. Lean Six Sigma certification or process improvement experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership and team development skills. Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
