Position Overview
Our organization is seeking qualified Internal Medicine physicians for a full-time academic faculty role within the Division of Hospital Medicine.
In this position, hospitalists will be instrumental in developing and enhancing a specialized Gut Failure Program , aimed at providing coordinated, high-quality care for patients facing severe gastrointestinal issues, short bowel syndrome, and intricate surgical or medical requirements.
This role is perfect for a physician who thrives in a high-acuity academic hospital environment, values teamwork across disciplines, and desires dedicated clinical time to cultivate subspecialty knowledge.
Practice Structure: 50% Specialized Gut Failure / 50% Hospital Medicine
This position presents a well-rounded clinical portfolio that merges focused subspecialty work with general inpatient medicine:
50% Dedicated Gut Failure Service: Deliver direct medical care for patients with gut failure and complex gastrointestinal conditions, create clinical pathways, and lead program development and quality improvement efforts.
50% Core Academic Hospital Medicine: Participate in standard inpatient hospitalist rotations, ensuring a comprehensive internal medicine skill set.
Key Responsibilities & Clinical Scope
Interdisciplinary Care: Collaborate in the management of complex gut failure patients alongside General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing, clinical nutrition, psychology, and social work.
Program Development: Assist in creating clinical models, standardized care pathways, and operational processes for the new service line.
Clinical Spectrum: Oversee high-acuity cases such as short bowel syndrome, intestinal failure, complex enterocutaneous fistulas, abdominal wall reconstructions, complicated pancreatitis, and gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
Academic & Safety Initiatives: Lead quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing clinical outcomes and patient safety; engage in clinical education, mentorship for residents and fellows, and scholarly activities.

Qualifications
Required:
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
Possession of an active Georgia medical license (or eligibility to obtain one).
Proven track record of effective teaching, supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration in an inpatient environment.
Preferred:
Experience in a high-acuity academic medical center.
Prior experience or a strong interest in complex gastrointestinal care, surgical co-management, or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) management.
Background in clinical program development, quality improvement, or medical education.
