Maintenance Operations Coordinator

As a Special Projects Coordinator, you'll support a maintenance section responsible for more than 700 lane miles of roadway, coordinating people, equipment, materials, and resources to keep transportation infrastructure safe, efficient, and well maintained. In this role, you'll provide guidance to technical and clerical staff, coordinate maintenance contracts and projects, and work closely with government agencies, private partners, and the public. You'll also play an important role in responding to emergency situations and addressing challenges that impact Texas roadways. With a high level of autonomy, you'll have the opportunity to solve problems, establish priorities, coordinate resources, and help drive projects to successful completion. Your work will have a visible impact on the roads and rights-of-way that connect communities and keep Texas moving. Minimum Salary: 54,278.00
Maximum Salary: 87,046.00

Position Description
Coordinates and schedules equipment, materials, and personnel for special transportation jobs and activities. Leads the work of specialized maintenance and technical workers. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Essential Duties: Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by the crews and contractors. Assists in budget preparation for the section. Assists in scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for a project. Coordinates with local authorities to develop/implement traffic management plans for special events and incidents including the handling and disposal of hazardous material spills on the highways; responds as required to perform these functions. Coordinates assignments and oversees the work of special jobs and contracted crews. Coordinates with Intelligent Transportation System personnel on incidents and traffic problems. Coordinates scheduling of equipment, materials, and personnel necessary for a project Coordinates inventory and distribution of personal protective equipment, monthly safety related inspections, and completes safety incident related reports. Assists in scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for a project. Ensures projects follow established safety guidelines. Ensures vehicles are properly equipped and maintained. Handles public complaints. Inspects maintenance contract work. Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by the crews and contractors. Completes reports on damaged railings and bridges. Responsible for operations of section in absence of supervisor. Performs some administrative duties such as maintaining records on materials, supplies and personnel. Prepares daily and weekly work schedules. Operates light and heavy roadway equipment. Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures. Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members' career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education. Experience: 5 years of experience in roadway maintenance, construction, traffic systems management, or related work (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Licenses and Certifications: Commercial Driver Certificate Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement at time of application. Competencies: Budgeting methods and procedures Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Incident management procedures Methods and procedures involving storage & transport of hazardous materials Inventory/stock control procedures Maintenance contract inspection procedures Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others Safely using, operating, and maintaining applicable equipment Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade Scheduling work assignments Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports Training professional and technical staff Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Work in varying conditions to include heavy traffic, overhead power lines and underground utilities Collaborates and cooperates with others and builds effective working relationships with internal and external members to accomplish organizational goals
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 or above 100 degrees for more than one hour Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist Kneeling-bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s) Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction Standing-prolonged periods of time Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication Conditions of Employment: Please read the Standard Conditions of Employment (TxDOT) for all positions.
