Senior Intellectual Property Counsel

Senior Intellectual Property Counsel Location: Marlborough, MA (Fully remote). This position reports to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and is part of the Legal Department. Responsibilities Serve as trusted counsel on IP issues (inventor mining, patentability, prosecution, freedom to operate) providing solid legal advice to stakeholders including business executives. Lead outside counsel in the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications for the portion of the portfolio that this position individually is responsible for, focusing on quality, output, and cost. Negotiate, draft, and review agreements such as licenses, research agreements, collaboration agreements, confidentiality agreements, and material transfer agreements. Conduct freedom‑to‑operate assessments on emerging technology. Provide educational presentations and training on IP matters to science associates. Essential Requirements Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials. Active bar membership. Admitted to practice, including limited practice, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Experience in biology, chemistry, and physics with working knowledge of software, or experience in software with working knowledge of life sciences. Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in a law firm and as in‑house counsel, including managing a global IP portfolio and counseling business executives. Preferred Qualifications Strong process orientation and problem‑solving skills. Ability to perform exceptionally in a fast‑paced, performance‑oriented environment with a sense of urgency. Executive communication skills and appropriate escalation ability. Ability to command respect and influence business leaders, peers, teams, and outside counsel up to C‑level executives. Travel & Physical Requirements Travel: Approximately 10% of time, including overnight domestic and international travel. Compensation & Benefits Annual salary range: $215,667 – $237,500. Position is eligible for bonus/incentive pay. Comprehensive benefits include paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k) for eligible employees.
