Registered Nurse - CVICU

Job Description

Job Summary:

The CVICU Registered Nurse provides specialized critical care for adult and pediatric patients requiring ECMO support following cardiac, respiratory, traumatic, or other severe illnesses. The role involves managing complex ECMO devices and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary ICU team to optimize patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Administer advanced critical care by managing ECMO devices during bedside cannulation and cannula repositioning procedures.
• Monitor and care for patients with diagnoses such as post-cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, ARDS, and trauma-related injuries.
• Operate specialized equipment including Cardiohelp, Centramag, and heater-cooler units, ensuring optimal device performance.
• Follow ECMO order sets and provider directives while working alongside ICU RNs and RTs to support patient stability.
• Document patient care accurately in EPIC EMR, maintaining compliance with hospital protocols.
• Float between CVICU and PICU units as required, adjusting care based on patient needs and skill competencies.

Qualifications:

• Hold an active RN license with at least one year of ICU experience and recent EPIC EMR proficiency.
• Demonstrate ECMO specialty device course completion and required CMEs.
• Possess certifications including ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
• Have pediatric and adult ICU experience with a focus on critical extracorporeal support.
• Maintain current SC RN license and relevant ECMO specialist experience.
• Be able to work night shifts (19:00-07:30) in a 3x12 schedule.
