Position Summary

Waseca Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and student-centered individual to serve as the Head Cheerleading Coach. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the high school cheerleading program while fostering a positive, inclusive, and educational environment for student-athletes. This position is responsible for teaching the fundamental skills of cheerleading, promoting school spirit, sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

The Head Cheerleading Coach will work collaboratively with the Activities Department and athletic coaching staff to support Bluejay athletic programs through positive sideline leadership, school events, and other assigned performances while serving as a positive role model for student-athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise all cheerleading practices, performances, and assigned events.
• Teach and reinforce proper cheerleading fundamentals, including motions, jumps, stunting, tumbling (as appropriate), crowd leadership, and game-day routines.
• Develop and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.
• Provide direct supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after all practices, athletic contests, performances, travel, and team activities, ensuring student safety and appropriate conduct at all times.
• Coordinate cheerleading participation at home and away athletic contests, pep rallies, and other school-sponsored events as assigned.
• Promote academic achievement, leadership, sportsmanship, and responsible citizenship.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaching staff, school personnel, and the Activities Office.
• Maintain appropriate care, inventory, and security of uniforms, equipment, and program supplies.
• Collaborate with athletic coaches and school administration to promote a positive game-day environment and exceptional school spirit.
• Follow all Waseca Public Schools policies and procedures and comply with all Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) rules and regulations.
• Complete all required district hiring requirements and coaching certifications.

Qualifications

• Previous cheerleading coaching and/or competitive cheer experience is preferred.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor high school student-athletes in a positive and professional manner.
• Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, staff, and the community.
• Demonstrated commitment to educational athletics, student leadership, and character development.
• Must meet all district employment requirements and MSHSL coaching certification requirements.

Compensation

Stipend position per district salary schedule.
