Clinical Counselor

Position Overview The University of New England (UNE) is seeking a Clinical Counselor to join our team at the Biddeford Campus. This full‑time, 11‑month position focuses on providing essential counseling services to support students in navigating personal, educational, and career challenges. The Clinical Counselor will also engage in crisis intervention, outreach programming, and collaboration with faculty and staff. Responsibilities Provide direct services in the form of short‑term individual and group counseling related to students' personal, educational, and career concerns. Provide intake screening and clinical assessment for services. Make referrals to internal and external resources as appropriate. Provide clinical and outreach services primarily on the Biddeford Campus. Provide crisis intervention for critical incidents or individual clinical emergencies, including short‑term crisis therapy; assistance in managing individuals; and assessment and coordination with physicians, University officials, police, and other service providers. Maintain documentation necessary to support accurate and complete case records. Deliver psychoeducational outreach programming in support of the curriculum and Student Support Services mission. Provide faculty and staff consultation as needed. Maintain current standards for licensure in the respective profession. Stay current with developments in counseling theory and practice. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Master's degree in Counseling or a closely related field, with an appropriate internship; licensed or license‑eligible in the State of Maine; and at least one year of relevant counseling experience. Prior college or university counseling experience preferred. In-depth understanding of counseling theories and techniques, as well as adolescent and emerging adult development theory, with an emphasis on evidence‑supported treatment. Adherence to the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, or other applicable licensing board standards (e.g., NASW). Relevant training and experience as a generalist in short‑term counseling, case management, group therapy, risk assessment, and crisis intervention. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. Strong counseling and advising skills specific to emerging adults and non‑traditional‑aged college students, including issues such as substance use, identity development, eating disorders, relationship concerns, and test anxiety. Strong teaching and group presentation skills, with the ability to develop and deliver outreach programming. Some experience with clinical documentation systems and related technology. Some training or experience in career assessment and counseling. Willingness to provide occasional support on the Portland Campus as needed.
