Mechanical Maintenance Shift: 1st, 2nd, 3rd

Full-time – In-person; Union-based role

Role:

Morgan Foods, Inc. is seeking a Processing Maintenance Mechanic . This is a full-time, on-site role located in Austin, IN. The Processing Maintenance Mechanic supports the safe and efficient operation of processing, batching, filling, and seaming equipment throughout the manufacturing facility.

This role performs equipment setup, changeovers, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments while working closely with Maintenance, Processing, Production, and Quality Assurance. The position plays a key role in maintaining equipment reliability, product quality, seam integrity, food safety, and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Set up, assemble, inspect, adjust, and maintain processing, batching, filling, and seaming equipment before and during production
• Assemble processing equipment, including mixers, homogenizers, tanks, cook kettles, pumps, valves, process piping, in-line magnets, liquid fillers, seamers, and related components
• Complete assigned equipment setup checklists, inspection reports, preventive maintenance work orders, corrective work orders, and other required documentation
• Support filling-line and can-size changeovers by retrieving and installing the appropriate change parts, verifying completed work, running sample cans, and returning cleaned components to their designated storage areas
• Perform can seam evaluations and make necessary equipment adjustments to maintain acceptable seam integrity throughout production
• Adjust filling equipment as needed to maintain acceptable product net weights
• Inspect finished-product magnets and document findings according to HACCP monitoring requirements
• Immediately report magnet findings that meet or exceed established critical limits to the appropriate Supervisor and Quality Assurance personnel
• Set up and maintain bean-handling equipment as required, including de-stoners, dewatering shakers, pumps, valves, process piping, blanch-water systems, and finished-product magnets
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform repairs and adjustments to minimize production interruptions and equipment downtime
• Complete all assigned preventive maintenance tasks and identify equipment deficiencies requiring corrective work
• Perform corrective repairs using appropriate equipment manuals, technical information, parts, tools, and established maintenance procedures
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures to isolate and discharge all energy sources before beginning maintenance work
• Verify that equipment guards and safety devices are properly installed and operational following maintenance activities
• Test repaired or adjusted equipment to confirm proper operation when production conditions permit
• Enter, update, and close preventive maintenance and corrective work orders in Maximo
• Maintain clean and organized work areas by removing tools, equipment, materials, parts, and debris following maintenance activities
• Immediately notify supervision of faulty equipment or conditions that could jeopardize food safety, food quality, employee safety, or the efficient operation of equipment
• Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices, SQF requirements, HACCP procedures, food safety and quality policies, allergen controls, SOPs, work instructions, and company safety requirements
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Processing, Production, Quality Assurance, and other departments to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on production and operational needs

Education/Training/Skills/Experience/Personal Attributes:

1. High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
2. Industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, equipment repair, or related mechanical experience preferred
3. Experience with food-processing, batching, filling, can-seaming, packaging, or similar production equipment preferred
4. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and adjust manufacturing equipment
5. Working knowledge of pumps, valves, piping, motors, conveyors, fillers, seamers, tanks, and related mechanical systems preferred
6. Ability to safely use assorted hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and maintenance equipment
7. Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, maintenance checklists, work instructions, safety procedures, and technical documentation
8. Strong attention to detail when completing equipment setup, seam evaluations, HACCP monitoring, and maintenance documentation
9. Ability to accurately complete preventive maintenance records, corrective work orders, inspection reports, and other required documentation
10. Maximo or other computerized maintenance management system experience preferred
11. Better Process Control School certification preferred or may be required based on assigned responsibilities
12. Ability to work independently within demonstrated and validated skill levels while accepting guidance from senior mechanics and Maintenance supervision
13. Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across departments
14. Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
15. Willingness to complete required on-the-job training, SQF training, OSHA and safety training, Maximo training, and other position-specific training
16. Dependable attendance and the flexibility to work overtime, weekends, alternate shifts, or adjusted schedules based on operational needs
