Soil and Lab Technician

Job Summary The Soil and Lab Technician works as part of a multi‑disciplinary team that will monitor soil carbon stocks and greenhouse gas fluxes in the cropping and forestry systems of South Carolina. The Lab Technician will learn and adopt techniques as needed; coordinate, lead, and communicate tasks/results across groups; collect and analyze data; and meet the deadlines as required by the project. Performs other duties as assigned. The position is based at Baruch Institute in coastal Georgetown, SC. Job Duties 50% – Essential – Lead the processing and carbon/nitrogen analysis of soil samples. 25% – Essential – Run the lab‑based soil greenhouse gas flux mesocosm experiments. 25% – Essential – Assist with field work. Help collect samples of plants and soils from field sites and operate greenhouse gas flux equipment. Minimum Requirements Education – Bachelor’s Degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a related medical, scientific or technical discipline with journey‑level work experience in a related field. Work Experience – 2+ years relevant experience with instruments and techniques. Preferred Requirements Education – Master’s Degree in Ecology, Soil Science, Plant Sciences, or related disciplines. Work Experience – 2+ years relevant experience with instruments and techniques. Responsibilities Fundamental Job Knowledge – Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations. Supervisory Responsibilities No Supervisory Duties – Not responsible for supervising employees.
