ED Float Pool RN – Syracuse, NY (Night Shift) Job Overview

This is a high-acuity Emergency Department Float Pool travel RN assignment at a large Level 1 Trauma Center in Syracuse, New York. The nurse will provide emergency care to both adult and pediatric patients while floating between multiple ED areas as staffing needs require.

Assignment Details

• Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Location: Syracuse, NY
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating holidays
• Patient Population: Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department patients
• Environment: Fast-paced Level 1 Trauma Center

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing patient monitoring.
• Provide emergency nursing care for critically ill, injured, and medically complex patients.
• Administer medications, treatments, and emergency interventions.
• Respond rapidly to trauma activations and medical emergencies.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Float between various ED units with minimal orientation.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR system.
• Adhere to patient safety, infection control, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

Licensure

• Active New York State RN License

Certifications (Required)

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience
• Experience must be within the last 2 years
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred
• Experience in Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Centers strongly preferred
• Must be comfortable caring for both adult and pediatric emergency patients

EMR Experience

• EPIC experience preferred

Ideal Candidate Profile

The strongest candidates will have:

• ER/ED experience in large teaching hospitals or trauma centers
• Trauma, stroke, sepsis, and critical care emergency experience
• Pediatric emergency experience
• Float pool experience
• Previous travel assignments in high-volume emergency departments
• Strong independent decision-making skills
