Americas HSE Leader: Zero Harm & Compliance Strategy

This role can be located at any of the U.S. Elementis locations (East Windsor, NJ, St. Louis, MO, Milwaukee, WI, New Martinsville, WV, Huguenot, NY, or Newberry Springs, CA). The Americas Regional HSE Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) function across North and South America. This role is accountable for achieving Zero Harm by embedding TogetherSAFE principles and Global HSE Standards into daily operations, leadership behaviors, and decision‑making. The position leads continuous improvement of HSE performance, regulatory compliance, and safety culture across the Americas while ensuring alignment with global HSE strategy, policies, and standards. Job Description Champion Zero Harm as a core business priority and reinforce accountability for safety at all levels. Embed TogetherSAFE principles across all Americas sites. Ensure consistent implementation and adherence to Global HSE Standards and Life‑Saving Rules. Partner with Global HSE leadership to develop, communicate, and implement HSE standards. Act as a key member of the Americas leadership team, influencing business decisions through a strong HSE perspective. HSE Management Systems & Compliance Provide strong leadership to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and HSE standards across the Americas. Ensure effective incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions. Support site leadership in managing relationships with regulatory and government agencies. Coordinate the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification). Operational Excellence & Risk Management Provide guidance on environmental management, occupational and process safety, emergency response, fire protection, and industrial hygiene. Drive proactive risk identification and mitigation to prevent serious injuries, fatalities, and environmental incidents. Oversee regional HSE audits, inspections, and compliance reviews for the region. Ensure consistent incident learning, trend analysis, and sharing of best practices across sites. People & Capability Development Develop and strengthen the Americas HSE organization through coaching and mentoring of site HSE professionals. Build and maintain a strong, inclusive team culture by encouraging collaboration, peer support, and open communication, ensuring resources and best practices are shared effectively across sites. Support delivery of HSE training programs and competencies aligned with legislation and internal standards. Foster a strong safety culture through visible leadership, engagement, empowerment, and alignment with Zero Harm, TogetherSAFE, Global HSE Standards, and Life‑Saving Rules. Align regional HSE strategies with site leadership and other key functions to ensure consistent execution, integration, and shared ownership of HSE goals and performance metrics across the Americas. Coordinate and facilitate regional HSE meetings and initiatives to drive collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across sites. Decision making The Americas Regional HSE Manager operates with a high level of autonomy in managing day‑to‑day and tactical HSE activities across the Americas, including regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, incident oversight, and implementation of HSE management systems aligned with Zero Harm and TogetherSAFE. The role is empowered to set regional HSE priorities, direct site HSE resources, approve corrective and preventive actions, engage with regulatory agencies, and intervene or escalations when significant safety or compliance risks are identified. What will it take Collaborates: The role works in a matrix environment with site leaders, Global HSE, business functions, regulators, and cross‑functional partners. Strong collaboration is essential to align strategies, share best practices, and achieve shared HSE objectives. Manages Complexity : Operating across multiple sites, regulatory frameworks, and manufacturing environments demands the ability to make sense of complex, sometimes conflicting information. This competency is critical for effective risk management, incident investigation, and regulatory compliance across the Americas. Strategic Mindset: This role requires looking ahead to future risks and opportunities and translating them into proactive HSE strategies. The Regional HSE Manager drives Zero Harm, aligns regional initiatives with global HSE strategy, and influences operational decisions through a forward‑looking safety lens. Ensures Accountability : Achieving Zero Harm and consistent application Global HSE Standards requires holding self and others accountable. This competency supports strong governance, corrective action follow‑through, and performance consistency across sites. Communicates Effectively : Clear, multi‑mode communication is critical for influencing senior leaders, engaging site teams, leading incident learning, and reinforcing TogetherSAFE behaviors. The role must tailor messages across diverse audiences and functions to drive understanding and action. Technical Knowledge and Skills Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards and management systems (e.g., ISO 45001) Environmental compliance standards (EPA) and management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) Process Safety Management (PSM) elements and systems (mechanical integrity, PSI, MoC, PHA) Incident investigation and root cause analysis Position Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline. Experience: Minimum 10 years of HSE experience, Minimum 5 years in chemical manufacturing, Minimum 5 years in a management or leadership role. IT Skills: Proficiency in EHS Management systems, Learning Management Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI. Language Skills: Verbal and written fluency in English. Traveling required: United States: approximately 35%, Brazil: approximately 0–5%.
