Bus Driver

Job TitlePerforms responsible work while in the operation of an activity bus to transport patrons to and from a variety of events and activities planned by the Parks and Recreation Department. Work is performed under the supervision of recreation programming staff and is monitored and reviewed through observation and patron response.Examples of DutiesSafe Transportation:Operate bus on assigned routes and schedules, adhering to traffic laws and DOT bus passenger regulationsEnsure the safety of all passengers during loading, unloading, and transitAdhere to regular service schedule for busPerform pre-and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating conditionClean bus (i.e. sweeping, washing front and back windows, etc.)Keeps alert for mechanical or other equipment problems requiring attention; report needs; reports about traffic hazards, accidents and other conditions requiring attention.Passenger Supervision and Discipline:Maintain order and discipline on the bus, enforcing City policies and proceduresSupervise and assist passengers on and off the bus as needed, including passengers with disabilitiesTransport passengers to and from activities and eventsDischarge passengers at authorized stops onlyEnsure passenger safetyCheck bus for lost items and reports same.Record Keeping and Communication:Complete and maintain accurate and timely records and reports (i.e. time sheets, mechanical reports, route descriptions, seating charts, etc.)Attend scheduled in-service trainingMaintain positive communication with department personnel, parents, and studentsWorks with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful mannerOther Duties:Drives an activity bus on shuttle runs or on day or overnight trips.Conduct oneself as the chaperone and accounts for patrons.Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school busesPerforms work safely in accordance with City policy.Follows and implements standard operating policies and procedures for recreational facilities.You need to be able to communicate effectively with students, adults, and City staff.Receives and handles complaints, aiding, information, and solutions as needed.Performs related work as assigned.Typical QualificationsHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.One (1) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Class B license with the "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsements.A minimum of 12 months of driving experience.Driving record with no more than 4 points against your license in the past 12 months.Complete the South Carolina School Bus Driver Training Program.Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination.Supplemental InformationPhysical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.Performs medium work that involves lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, walking, or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour.
